Who’s turn is it? Either way I think the Amazon wins since that’s the most movement capability. The Chancellor cannot move diagonally so the White King has to help out, Black doesn’t have this problem. White will run out of checks eventually if it’s theirs turn and then Black will quickly checkmate, Amazon only needs to be one square distance from the King on the edges in order to checkmate. On the other hand, the Chancellor might just be on block the check duty so it “might” be perpetual check. Forking is not possible in this position so White has no hope of winning, best case for White is a draw.

Rather than making a ton of these threads, you should have a single “Win or Draw” thread where you post multiple things all on the same thread.

Also, this game might also be a dead draw. But who knows, maybe the amazon can outplay the chancellor...

Win, because of a forced line

1. ... Aa2+
2. Kb5 Aa3+

Variation 1:

3. Kb6 Ab4+
4. Eb5 (if the king moves, the chancellor is no longer defended and black can just capture it) and then either Aa4+ or Ac4+, forcing the king into a pin (again, if it moves away, you can just capture the chancellor), after which you can simply move your king. White is then in zugzwang: he is forced to move his king away from the defense of his chancellor, leaving it free for black to capture.

Variation 2:

3. Kc6 Ab4+
4. Kd6 (any other move loses the chancellor immediately), putting white in a pin, and you can again simply move your king and white will be forced to lose the chancellor).

A trivial checkmate follows after both sequences. Therefore, black wins by force.

Finally someone that can think concretely, thats how you have to evaluate positions in chess, not be like "the amazon can move diagonally so win"

I think its white's move tho

My opinion is that its a win for black because the chancellor cannot give perpetual and stalemates are much harder to obtain with the amazon than with the queen vs rook. They are possible, but the associated chancellor sacrifices are not forcing in some lines

The last two puzzles were black to move, so I assume this is as well. Even if it was white to move, there are only a handful of possibilities and most of them probably lead to a loss. Anywhere that the chancellor moves on the c file is a forced loss (there are way too many variations so I won't post them here but ultimately the amazon will single-handedly either fork the king and the chancellor or pin the chancellor and force a zugzwang). If the chancellor gives a check on the first move—there are only three checks in the starting position and two lose the game immediately by hanging the chancellor—black just runs the king to the corner and is safely guarded by the amazon. If the chancellor gives another check, again, running the king to the corner is fine, and after two moves, white runs out of checks, giving black the opportunity to pounce immediately and force a win.

While it isn't that hard to force a win, it also isn't hard to blunder a draw. For example, in a position like this:

Both Aa8+ and Aa7+ blunder a draw to Ea6+. The chancellor blocks the check to his own king and also delivers a check to the opponent, forcing a trade of amazon for chancellor and a draw by insufficient checkmating material.

Draw, because of Chancellor to f5 check

oh wait did I start with the wrong starting position?

JkCheeseChess

nvm I just completely missed Ef5+ which forces a draw lol

but if it's black to move then black wins
