Is opening a suspicious link ok if I have a vpn and am in incognito mode?

.
I'd say that merely opening a link should be safe enough provided you're very careful what you do after that. The risk I think is clicking on links within webpages designed to defraud users.

If you should make that mistake I'm not sure using a VPN helps very much?

There're quite a few sites that offer a URL checking service and will give you some idea of what's safe and what isn't.

Can you ask a question or make a suggestion without posting random 'stuff'?

I don't understand the distinct purpose of the two groups. In fact for a long time I didn't realize there are two groups.

World League https://www.chess.com/club/world-league

World League Headquarters https://www.chess.com/club/world-league-headquarters

It seems national club admins are required to follow posts in the second club, and in that case, what is purpose of this club 'World League'? When I try to find current information about the rounds in WL in this club, I find there is nothing updated since 2024 so it's apparently dormant.
But if I check the WLHQ club, there's more recent activity and current leagues.

So why have two clubs? It is only leading to more stale information.

Even more confusing, there are two World League Guides. Both of them are out of date

This is an excerpt from the Rules of the League:

"All members whose accounts are closed for Fair Play Violation by Chess.com, will forfeit the board 0-2 regardless of the actual game results. (If both players on a board are banned for Fair Play then the board will be halved). Only Chess.com will determine Fair Play violation. A match score adjustment will be applied by the league if the match has already been completed. This will continue for the duration of the league competition.
The match scores will not be adjusted for any other closures."

If I'm not mistaken, before, when a player on your team closed their account (simply because they leave for good), you lost all the points earned by that account during that season.

If I understand the rule correctly, now you only lose all points earned by an account that was closed due to Fair Play violation.

That's an improvement and I really appreciate it. It makes more sense to me.

That is correct. This year only FPV closures will be subject to board adjustments. All other board results will be actual game conclusions..

I do not agree with allowing accounts closed for Abuse to earn points for their teams. I think those should be adjusted for. However, I don't expect the WL admins to agree, since we don't agree on much these days.

We did have a lengthy discussion about abuse closures. Initially my position was the same and I argued for abuse closures to be penalised as well. I was convinced to change for a number of reasons. 1. We do not know what triggers an Abuse closure, but in a lot of cases it is not related to game play. 2. The number of abuse closures is small compared to the total number of players and the effect of changing scores is very minor. 3. Abuse closures can be reversed after staff review. 4. Chess.com do not adjust match scores following member action.

Therefore it was agreed to leave abuse closures game scores unchanged. We understand that not everyone will be in agreement but the decision is made now.

"I don't understand the distinct purpose of the two groups"

I know, rather confusing isn't it? It's another legacy issue, something that the current league team inherited. Not the way I like to see leagues configured but it is what it is.

About legacy, I tried to find the link to the new website to track results but failed. I believe there's a number of topics, and maybe the overal club's homepage to update to replace chessteams.info with the new one, that would be helpful.

I've just asked Daws if he'd update the WL Guide with the new link when he's able to.

I'm wondering where else we might put that - In the "Custom Sidebar" perhaps which hasn't yet been used?

....done 😊

Avatar of ImperfectAge

In the 'about club' page(s) would be good location. Also those 'About the WL' pages.

Maybe you can start to link from the WL club to the WLHQ club while we are at it.

The threads and obsolete forums in WL can be gradually locked or deleted, and just link over to the correct info in WLHQ?

Avatar of stephen_33

I think the "Custom Sidebar" is probably the best place because it appears across a number of different pages, including 'About Club'. I've updated it now so how does it look?

Avatar of ImperfectAge

Ok, I see the sidebar points to one of the duplicate (but out of date) 'World League Guide' pages.
I suggest consolidating the two pages into one and updating the custom sidebar in both clubs to point to the single, consolidated, and up to date World League Guide.

That would be progress

Avatar of Tricky_Dicky

The links should now be updated and OK

Avatar of ImperfectAge

Not for me. Isn't this the 2026 page?

https://www.chess.com/clubs/forum/view/world-league-guide-2026

The link in the sidebar in this club, WL, goes here https://www.chess.com/clubs/forum/view/world-league-guide17

"
If you'd like to find out more about this league, you can do so here:-
.

World League Guide

"

The sidebar in WLHQ has a pointer to a different league guide, it has these:

Results for all WL tournaments 2025 onwards

.

WL Rules and Assessments guide

There's nothing stopping you from posting a link to a forum thread in one club from a different club.

That's what I'm suggesting you do, rather than duplicate the posts in each club. Because eventually they will become inconsistent.
