World War 2

WW2 1939 to 1944.

My Dad was a radio operator on the Ark Royal. He also took part in reinforcing Russia with armaments, food and medicines dodging U boats across the North Sea in atrocious  Winter weather.. Will do some more research on these 2 topics and get back to you with my findings. All his life he was very proud to have served in the Royal Navy and done his "bit"

My dad was MD in a unit that served in North Africa and in Italy during WW2 and he had a lot of good war stories to tell.

What's an MD, Roy.  I would love to hear some of your dad's war stories.

He was the doctor medical officer in a unit of black soldiers who built construction items. They had some crazy stuff happen. He was in Italy when Vesuvius erupted, and got shelled on the beach at Salerno.

I've  heard of Salerno. Don't know much about the Italian campaign.
