They maybe could've made 2 versions of XXL chess instead of just replacing the second over the first, since then there'd be more options available

It would take me 2 weeks just to learn how to set up the board

Agree
I think they changed it because the old version took too long to get a knight to the other side and attack, so they added chancellors and archbishops for longer range.
ive alredy tried it
but the first person i played was a mid 1700 : (
but i do play it from time to time
