I think that the promotion rank should be set farther. Now it's just a pawn push fest

Lol I hate the 8th rank rule
(especially my first game where it got to an endgame)
I was up some material and my opponent starts to push some pawns,I was confused and thought they are trying to promote the pawn on the 14th rank (yes I thought it would be that far) so I simply ignored it,then a different board sound came and yeah...
I let him promote 3 pawns and I still won lol
Is it just me, or does it seem like bad design that half the pieces look like knights with different clothes on?
Those pieces can move like a knight so they have a knight skin
