Mid-nineteenth century England - feared and romanticized, tuberculosis, known as the White Plague, is a common cause of death. Its sufferers die slowly, waning like the moon. There is no known cure.

I had a good day today. I won two of four rounds.
This is my best win.
I'd like to share today this elegant chess puzzle from a book I currently studying. I hope to write a series of entries on this author and his work, so I hope you enjoy this sneak peak!

I just like the image of this stamp. It has nothing at all to do with this post about this event.
I had a good day.
I won three out of four rounds, and finished first in my division.
That would more impressive if my division weren't >750

I am working on my chess thinking, and developing good anti-blunder habits. Here is my current basic thinking plan.
Can my opponent play a check?
Can my opponent capture any of my pieces?
Does my opponent pose any other immediate threats?

I am bit by tiny bit improving my chess. My goal is to break 1000 by the end of the year - I'm fairly comfortable that I'll be able to achieve this, as long as...
I played this nice little game today (7/20/2015). It is the first time I have won a game by spotting a checkmate on the board before my pieces were set up for it and setting it up! I feel so accomplished right now. :D :D
Dear Anna,
That was a really rough tournament today. And mostly, it was your own fault. You got too upset about some stupid things, and let it royally interefere with your play.
Here are some notes about avoiding this kind of pr...
Vacation successful. We saw Washington DC, visited the national zoo and saw giant pandas, did the memorials, hung out with family, discovered Ethiopian food, and generally had a grand old time.

We're off for the summer! I'll be back in July.
A knight on the rim is a fanciful whim,
a move you might like to take back,
but if you hold and fend you'll find you soon match Tom Rendle,

Here are the games! I played reasonably well - hardly my best though. I won both of my white-piece games, which were against players close to my own strength. I lost both black-piece games, playing against approx. 1200 rated players.
2.0/3 so far today! 1 round left.
I found my copy of Capablanca's Fundamentals! It's not the original copy that I got from my grandfather, but a replacement I picked up in the '90s after the fire. I'm glad I held off on buy another copy - I knew this one was still around!

I'm going to be starting to use this in my long online games.
This is my plan for long form analysis. I've developed it from FM CharlyAZ's Hardcore Guide to Analyzing Your Chess Games.
Mostly I've paraphrased for clarity and identify for myself a solid timeframe. Maybe sometime I'll turn it into an actu...

I've been reading about how to analyse my games properly and throughly. Here's my first go at it.
This was a rough day for me. I was a little sick and lot sleep deprived going into it, and I played poorly. I'm working on the pgn's today, and I can say that I've improved my notation, which was one of my main goals. So far, error free...
