I prefer the plastic Marshall set over any other plastic set that they have to offer.
House of Staunton Plastic Pieces
...and I prefer the Hastings. The plastic Collector is very nice (I have several) but the Hastings is, to me, aesthetically just a little better.
As far as plastics go, I'd say that all the HoS plastic is very good quality - sturdy and has a good "feel". Common to all plastic sets are minor molding issues but I've seen nothing to be overly concerned about.
Another excellent plastic set is the Legend Products Alegria.
(You signed up for a plethora of opinions on this one, hahaha! ![]()
Thank you very much 'Knightsforkcafe'.. I'll consider the Marshall (Red & Natural).
And I really appreciate the plethora.. thx a lot 'GrandPatzerDave' ![]()
I will add that their standard 3.75" triple weighted set is garbage. They arrive with the weights already loose and with standard play the keep getting new ones that are loose with every play. You wouldn't know this though because House of Staunton doesn't publish negative reviews that might warn you about how cheap these are. The DGT plastic pieces are actually really high quality. Not quite as heavy and the knight looks a little derpy. The ultimate chess set is excellent quality if you can get past the strange proportions of some of the pieces.
I'm hesitant to recommend HOS for anything after I bought a Dubrovnik set from them that was absolute garbage. No two knights were even remotely similar. One wasn't even finished being carved on the one side, with the horse's mane being completely smooth. The finials on the bishops were different sizes and not centered. It was shocking from what I've always heard was a high quality supplier. I exchanged the set for another and the replacement one had clearly already been gone through and returned for similar issues.

I recently purchased the HOS 4 Plastic Fischer set. I really like, it's heavy & sturdy and has this classic look & feel. I just keep hearing that the Collector set is by far the best HOS Plastic set. I also noticed a significant price difference between the 2 sets.
My question: does anyone own the 2 sets and can provide a useful feedback regarding the comparison? is it worth getting the Collector after purchasing the Fischer? is there a real difference in Plastic Material? Thx
