Will Anand Consider Retirement?

I don't think Anand has the same ego issues Fischer and Kasparov had.

It's possible he will continue to play chess and promote the game in especially India. From a commercial point of view there's still money to be made for him, and he is still a relevant figure in the scene, even though Carlsen now officially is the #1 guy.

I think there's a bright future for Anand becoming a key player on the next Challenger's "team".   You don't spend 2+ years preparing to take out the kid without learning something about what works and what doesn't.

If anand doesn't retire his car every once in a while, he might have a blowout and ruin the rims.

perhaps a longer tournament is better for a WC. WC should be held after 2 and half years.something like first to win 5 games becomes World Champ .( Fischer wanted 10, but given today's cramped schedule for top players, 5 would just be fine.)

I like best of 24 tbh 12 is too short and it was almost as soon as anyone loses a match

Anand's retirement will be decided by Anand only. It is impolite if we talk about Anand's retirement! Next, if Anand qualifies again for the World Championship next time,( as I surely believe he would),what can we do? One thing is clear... even his detractors seem to believe , there is a very good chance of Anand qualifying for the next WC!

Anand has been a credit to the game of chess, but I fear that his best days may be behind him. He has had two cracks at Carlsen, only winning one game. In 2016 he will be two years further from his peak, whilst Carlsen probably hasn't even reached his peak yet. Also, all the other young guns like Caruana, So, Giri, Grischuk etc. will be much stronger in 2016. Therefor the odds are somewhat stacked against Vishy even winning the Candidates for 2016. But if one man can defy the odds ( like he did in the last candidates ) ...............retirement from world championship matches maybe, retirement from chess ? No

Anand is playing better than Carlsen and should have won their head to head. Anand is the best player alive.

The results don't bear that out.

He didn't, so, no, he's not the best player.

Greasedlightnin

Anand is the best player in an Indian dogs eyes, but in mine he is just a heavyweight hustler.

DrSpudnik

He is a bit chunky in the mid-section.

AlCzervik

Does that mean chess isn't a sport?

Anand has been performing remarkably well despite his age. He won the 2014 canidates placed 2nd and zurich and is now in 2nd at shakmir going into the final round. It seems almost as his loss of the WCC title was more helpful then detrimental

Greasedlightnin

The rules of chess boxing need upgrading imo.

After a player makes a move, he should be allowed a sitting down punch in his opponents mug.

how does age matter in chess

Irjene

Your ability to calculate, remember, and focus decline. Thats why most chess stars are in their early 20s-mid 40s. If we look at the older players like Smyloff and Korchnoi, while yes they can still compete and a very high standered they no longer can go toe to toe with the 20year olds like carlsen

Only a kid would say that.
