Understanding the Teen Brain
It doesn’t matter how smart teens are or how well they scored on the SAT or ACT. Good judgment isn’t something they can excel in, at least not yet.
The rational part of a teen’s brain isn’t fully developed and won’t be until age 25 or so.
In fact, recent research has found that adult and teen brains work differently. Adults think with the prefrontal cortex, the brain’s rational part. This is the part of the brain that responds to situations with good judgment and an awareness of long-term consequences. Teens process information with the amygdala. This is the emotional part.
In teens' brains, the connections between the emotional part of the brain and the decision-making center are still developing—and not always at the same rate. That’s why when teens have overwhelming emotional input, they can’t explain later what they were thinking. They weren’t thinking as much as they were feeling.

Tom Petty, I had a look at your profile, you are a pretty good player overall. I can only dream of having a rating as high as yours.

I think if you get yourself a sympathetic chess coach, (s)he will be able to help you deal with the emotions better as well as help eliminate some of the mistakes that are costing you games.

Take lesson

Play better,

  • No blundering
  • No mistake
  • Keep your queen safe

You cannot be such a loser. You need to know some people are just better than you. lol, why so many people talking now? This forum started 6yrs ago!

Hi,

I really love chess. Sometimes I think I see improvement & rating rise, to just see it fall again. Every blitz loss is a lesson I take very professionally.  I keep on playing chess I know. I really love chess in a way that a sugar eater user might hate sugar.

Let me explain this, every day I feel the urge 4 playing.  My typical day is that i feel reasonably happy, feel like playing some blitz chess, lose some games then feel depressed; It's a line I can get out of!

I like chess, I invest time on it for reward & growth.

Also I like the primal person I become, ready to fight!

I think I have an opporunity.

...here is help, help at all 4 an opportunity as this.   Now I stay off poker sites.

I love my life because of chess.

I know somebody here can help me.

My life is a heaven!

Everybody wants 2B somebody; nobody wants 2 grow.

Goethe notes how everyone wants 2 B recognized and admired, yet no 1 thinks about reflecting on themselves as a person.   Do not stop polishing & perfecting yourself, or stagnate then forget about growth; take care 2 not B trapped beneath the rubble of vanity.   Get out of your feelings; they serve U no wellness.

Chess is just a game played for fun, and you shouldn't take it seriously in any manner. I know how annoying it can be, especially if you want to get better.
Remember that this game is just a form of entertainment, and if it doesn't provide you with fun anymore, then just get rid of it.

Try playing (blitz or a game for which you have chosen the timing eg 15 or 20 or even 30 minutes) against opponents who are demonstrably weaker than you until you find that you are evenly matched, by which time, you will have learnt greater patience and will have eliminated some of the poorer moves that used to dog your game.

I speak from experience!

I try to play a game every morning when I get up, 30 minute rapid.

This game is a test of how my brain is doing that day.

The rest of my games are therapy. Desensitization to negative feelings from disappointment.

I don't know if it's a good idea to tie one's sense of self worth to the outcome of a game.

To really get free, the best is bet to remove Your account with all Your ratings, achievements, etc. in chess.com and all other similar sites IRREVERSABLY and never play chess other way than OTB (worked with all other games). I got myself a "present" and got a year-premium Diamond here... I think this was the worst of my decisions last year, and not gonna make the same mistake.
20 lost games in a row also make me conclude it's time to cut off completely from this game to play online. Chess is no better than any other game where in matter of just an addiction that gives more nerves than pleasure. Competition is another aspect that destroys the nerves. I hate competition and decided to play only people I know in RL, starting from today happy.png That is the only reason I keep account here.

In the world of chess skill is social credit, so to be a lower-rated player is to have trouble socially as a result of that, and no matter how much you progress, I doubt that kind of pressure goes away.
