People just like to over exaggerate. It’s not like the real life chess clubs where people tip over boards poke you in the eye with the sharp end of the bishop and insert the king in whichever orifice is available. And That’s just for asking what colour they want to play.....,.or is that just in Yorkshire?
Incredible toxicity in the chess community

You're from Yorkshire?
Just last night I was reading some excellent articles on the Yorkshire chess page by someone named Steve Mann.

Some people (like you and I) play for fun, some for practice or learning, some for the competition, some for the ego-trip. Everyone has his or her own reasons. Some people can shrug off a loss, some get mad at themselves, some get mad at the world.... we're all different. It's the whole gnat/elephant/ocean thing.
Chess is as serious or light-hearted as someone envisions it.

Yep, the toxicity in chess is more than Rainbowsix. It happens in our community Indonesia. It shown in WGM Chelsie open Tournament, it actually celebrating pride of chess community in Indonesa, but sadly, in the end of match. so many top rated winner in 1/4 of 4k peoples there has been banned coz caught cheating. That was so sad, chess turn into the worst next esport game. Better you guys play fun in MOBA game like DOTA, LoL, ML... The cheating problems there are stil low. FIDE should reform how to promote chess or being straight forward for all those cheaters. Maybe 2nd step account verivication is a good radical moves

Probably sh,t like that... make people cheat as well. Some smelly little geek with a high rating. Insulting what could be a doctor or soldier... who only plays an hour a day. Disgusting.
Nice pfp btw.

I totally agree because I have a high rating and I know what it means.
People aren't playing (for) chess. They're playing for their ego.
Chess rating (and titles) is one of the best things to demonstrate it.
That's another sad truth about people. You need to show them how cool/smart/good you are.
Those people, who know their worth, don't need it.

Unfortunately, chess is not about fun. It's about violence.
When you will read chess chats, you will agree with my words.

I feel that people boasting about their online rating is one of the greatest parts of the forums. its hilarious to me how serious people can get when it comes to playing a game on a computer. It speaks volumes of one's character when they need to rely on the fact that they have a better chess.com rating in comparison to someone else in order to make them feel better about themselves and get themselves through their day. i guess all i can say is dont take it so seriously and just enjoy the show, and most importantly, the game
Lol, I saw this 2200 post a blitz game in the Marshall Gambit, and then @thrillerfan said something, resulting in him/her getting blasted with a “why should I care about a 1900 nobody” LOL
Hey, stop targeting me!

There ain’t ever been a purpose for pathetic violence, as it certainly only is as it’s conception is..
....and.. were there no ignorance there wouldn’t even be such the word.
The sad truth is that the entire world is toxic, both figuratively and literally. We are particularly exposed to it in this internet age. It does seem, however, that people are more hateful today than ever before. I blame the decline of civility on the breakdown of the family and church, myself. And I don't have a family or church. Maybe it's other factors; who knows ....
