I forgot to mention this, but they lose some players who go to other games, like Games C, D or whatever. So it goes on until both Game A and B are bankrupt
Incredible toxicity in the chess community

I have found a cycle. I don't exactly know when it repeats, but here it is:
There are two rival games. Game A and Game B
Game A gets popularized by some youtuber or twitch streamer, then many people flock to it.
After a while, Game A starts having an issue with toxic people.
The people then go to Game B to avoid the toxicity.
Then the toxic people also go there to ruin people's fun
Then the normal people go to Game A again,
And the cycle continues
No, the streamers get together, hire a hit man who shots all the toxic people... and everyone is happy.

......to be quite honest, considering all the crap we’ve been having to deal daily with over a year, nearly 1 1/2 yrs the little here is rather understandable..

"People use their rating like some kind of social credit system"
Yeah that is basically how the chess world works like it or not, The higher rating you have the more respect you get
There is nothing wrong with getting respect if you have a high rating, but demanding respect or bargaining about your rating, just shows poor character.

There hath been toxicity since the days of yore.
this is great!! thanks a lot for this!!

I haven't seen this posted much anywhere else but I think it needs to be noted:
I've been playing chess for about a year and a half. Starting at like a 700 rating and I'd say I'm around 1250 now and still climbing (this account is new, so its around 1175)
However, this entire time over all my accounts, every time I attempt to jump into the forums and start some fun chess discussion with others I am immediately shown why chess gatekeeping is such a meme.
The amount of sheer toxicity in these forums rivals any other game I've ever played online. People use their rating like some kind of social credit system, interjecting every opportunity they get to flaunt it.
Beginners and intermediates can barely ask questions without being attacked for their skill or mistakes. As far as I'm concerned this is the absolute worst community I've ever seen and I wish it wasn't because I love chess.
It's the same in any walk of life. Beginners and newbies will be disrespected by certain people, who need to look down upon others to feel better about themselves. Online, you get to see alot more of these people.
Toxicity had always been part of humanity, and always will be.
