Nobody says "Good Game" anymore!

This is worse than ever these days!  Is everyone too busy or what?  I always TRY to say at least gg when I lose but a lot of players disable chat so they never get that.  As far as anyone ever typing it to me? Forget about it.

Most of the time they’re long gone, but I usually offer a word or two. Good game to you!

I really appreciate it when someone pummels me into oblivion and then tops it off with a snark dripping “gg”.

But how do you know they’re being snarky? When I get a chance to play someone over my head I’ll offer a simple “thank you for the game.”

I can understand 'where you are coming from'.  I haven't been on Chess.com for a long but I do remember the days, for other games where the last segment of the game chat was:

Talon:  gg all

Hellshredder: peace out gg

Viper: tks

...

etc.

Thanks for your post, yes, times have changed ... and will keep changing.  I guess we'll see how it goes

thats because none of the games are good

Actually, maybe I'm a bit lucky at the moment, but for almost 3 days now I've been having one of the most fun and intellectually challenging, yet also rather 'chillaxed' games of Chess I've ever had.

I admit that's not always the case though - maybe keep track of people on the site that you have had good games with and do rematches?  Just an idea for you

Is it just me or has anybody else noticed that on v3 nobody ever has the courtesy to say (text) "good game" or even gg anymore? Is it because "focus mode" doesn't support it or is it because people are using machines (engines) and think no human interaction is necessary? If you are going to beat me anyway, at least have some sportsmanship and say thanks. Sheesh.

I'm on the same page as you. I really like to have some interaction and make a human connection with my opponent, win or lose. And the vast majority of those I've sent messages to after the game have responded in a friendly and humble way. I think the cross section of people on the forums is ruder and more arrogant than the general population of chess.com. When you play a hard fought battle on the board, you have shared a very deep experience, and it makes perfect sense that you'd want to "seal" that experience with at least a simple message to acknowledge what just took place. Unfortunately, most people just don't make the effort, even though they might like to connect.

Eh, maybe I don't, but I like to believe it. And I most definitely am not going to thank them for doing it. I guess that's just me, though.

Kowarenai

i do now due to habit but eh on lichess there is a auto gg setting which i wish was added here

If I say "good game", I mean it, regardless of the outcome. I'm not being snarky at all. It's just a digital handshake.

As someone else said they are gone by the time you have clicked the chat and typed gg especially when playing with the phone app, so why bother.

With or without a gg or something similar, most of my “opponents” have demonstrated they’re good humans. A very few have not. I’ve had some really good interaction with a small number, but I am quite guarded with most.

I haven't played a lot on this site but overall, your impression is similar to mine.  Maybe I've played 30-40 games and generally all the games went well.  I have had some particularly enjoyable (challenging, but not TOO challenging wink.png  games).

I assume having a few people you can enjoy playing rematches with on the site is a nice state to 'hang around'.

Of course, life keeps changing but *cheers* - feel free to enjoy the moments as they come.

Best wishes

I say gg almost every game I play. Whether chess or some other game.

I think part of it is just that general sense of 'did they try' ... or 'put a bit of heart into it'

I've enjoyed the encounters where we both seem to be at similar levels of skill (for whatever reality it is) and share a bit of desire to try out our skills ... a bit like a dance and in that case, oftentimes 'losing' is even enjoyable Best wishes 🕺 happy.png  and have fun (or not is fine too)  Peace ✌️
