I can't say this is true in general and I wouldn't phrase it that way, but I do agree there may be something to this erm... paradox of yours
Unbelievably stupid unsportsmanlike button.
and would it also seem more likely, that a player pressing that button, has lost a game? and the more likely a player is going to be grumpy, if they were playing some kind of new player that seemed somehow better than their rating.
wouldn't that add to whatever inclination you had to press that button.
AND WOULDN'T THOSE BAd sports accusers therefore, due to all I have purported above; wouldn't that make them more likely to be
A the loser.
B not as nice as someone that would never press the button.
C more likely to be more grumpy if they have been playing a much longer time than some up and comer.
D easily happen more against noobs coz noobs like me haven't even been able to turn the chat in Live back on on the last 6 months.
E who last week forgot they had a 5 min crazyhouse seek up for nearly 40 min and made the mistake of going to the loo forgetting to kill the seek.
eugh meugh geugh
it is just _____ _____.
the 'delation' button, I think
...but then chess.com will know better than just acting on somebody else's impulse
Chess.com is based in California. They're probably influenced by the progressives and their "fair for all" mentality. So glad I dont live there anymore.
I think the button was introduced because there were complaints about it not being easy enough to find one's way to the... well to the complaint section actually: both for the case of harrassments (especially gender related) and for engine-related cheating: the "Black Plague of Online Chess"!
Then obviously this provided an easy weapon in the hands of members who well.. dislike you for any reason
i was wondering that, but also wondering if they would have the sense to look into this, it's usually obvious if someone is hitting that button because they are a poor sport themselves. i have only used it for people that are truly acting low, such as letting all 8 minutes of their time run out because they are unhappy with a blunder and too arrogant to resign or keep playing, as well as opponents that rub your own blunder in your face and even resort to sexist comments to make themselves feel better about their recovery from a poor game... I just hope that the decent, reasonable people outnumber the bad apples.

Well said! 9 months ago, in one of my first chess games ever with a non family member, this person sent me a happy face every time they took one of my pieces. I got fully angry at this facetious bolix. I said some angry things to them in the end, the ONLY time I ever did that. Then I went into no chatting mode in live chess, and I've been in that mode ever since.
well, I can't remember how I got into it, truth be told xD
But I DO try and usually say GG to them, which you can still do in no chatting mode. Usually they have left. I won't say it if they did something absolutely stupid as I know that would make me mad.
Imagine if someone kept doing that to you in club chess, you'd want to fully slap them! I think I would get severe cramp in my leg and accidentally knock everything off the table.
I mean, personally I've only reported 2 people, both of which actually insulted me because I try not to waste anyone's time by reporting random people unless I think it's actually warranted
Well, but what if the game was objectively AWFUL?
I mean... on both sides!
In those cases I think both players would be better off, if they just walk away kinda whistling and looking as if they had never met before.
Much like after an unsuccessful erm... blind date?
I have been trying to do that ever since the first time this happened. I would say I do that at least 60 percent of the time, unless like I said earlier they did some really stupid blunder.
Don't assume the worst in me : )
I mean Let's get REAL here. The reason I am getting this tag is because I don't chat in live. And I don't want to chat in live.
That's crap.
This isn't the local bingo hall, this is CHESS. I should be able to rock up, shake hands, play chess until it seems a waste of time to (if I feel like resigning, that's ok, could be someone knocking at the door who knows) and then at the end of a 5 minute game I SHOULDN't HAVE to say anything at all for the same reason.
If I have time and the grace to say GG, which I usually do, and I'm not timing out, I mean I did in my last game but I'm still trying to get the hang of playing fast games, having only played chess for a year that means anything under 10 minutes...
THIS IS CHESS.
This isn't the local crochet and share your scones recipes club / site.
The results of the button reports are used to establish a separate rating pool , one for good sports and one for bad sports. This makes all the good sports happy, till it's realized all the bad sports are making a negative report on them - sucking them into the bad sport pool. So when you find ur playing more games vs ur fair share of bad sports, u'll know what's going on. Don't worry, won't take long before everybody gets tagged as a bad sport, and we'll all be be back in a single pool.
So.
Can someone prove to me that the people most likely to hit that button ARE NOT the most UNSPORTSmanlike themselves.
Wake up chess.com.
