1940 Soviet "Championship" Chessmen

Facebook reminds me that one year ago I posted about these chessmen made famous by promotional pictures taken at the 1940 Soviet Championship, even though they weren't used at that tournament. ChessBazaar had reproduced them in ebony and antique colors, whereas the famous pictures showed them in ivory and black. ChessBazaar was gracious enough to provide me with an unfinished side, which I lacqured ivory myself. ChessBazaar like the result, and now offers the set in white and black. Nice work.  I know it isn't as easy as it seems to get a uniform smooth spray paint finish without drips.
