8 Knights

Sort:
Krames

I just became the very proud owner of an amazing set of NOJ 1950s. That set inspired me to take a few pics. Here are the knights from some of the sets I have at home. Hope you guys like.

From left to right . . .

HOS Library Collector (dark pieces ebony)

HOS Zagreb (smaller set, dark pieces rosewood)

NOJ 1950 (maple/walnut matte finish)

Ultimates happy.png

TCE Chavet (dark pieces rosewood)

BCE 3d Printed

Unknown Staunton Style (purchased from Village Chess Shop NYC about 10 years ago)

'Bridal' Style, don't remember the manucfacturer, around 10 years ago (dark pieces ebony)

@Krames  No unboxing pics? No livestream? Come on man.

Please humor me with the following... Did Noj contact you out of the blue after months of waiting? I'm guessing the email was to confirm you are still alive and interested in a set. Confirm the set and specs. Final price, payment. Delivery date. Etc? Did Noj send "in process" progress photos? I've seen them before posted, but I'm guessing that's not a normal thing for them to do for everyone.

From the time you asked to be put on the waiting list to order confirmation, did you have a change of heart on the set/specs? Or you knew exactly what you wanted and stuck with it. Please walk us through the experience. LOL

It's interesting to see that although the Noj King is 3.5" tall, the Knight is comparable in size to sets with 3.75" Kings.

Today, Thursday November 18, is KramesNojDay henceforth.

Looks very nice / who 's the maker of that nice framed chess board wink.png

TheOneCalledMichael

Oh man, that board and set are made for each other. Beautiful set!

Krames

@lighthouse - if you send me message I'll give you the gentleman's info who made the board.

Krames

@TheOneCalledMichael - I had the board made for my hopes of getting this set. I wanted a classic/understated look. I'm very pleased with the combo, thanks for the kind words. Here's a look at the set on another board, completely different style, I imagine the Tal pieces looking nice on this one, or maybe even the 1941 Soviet set. Those are the ones I'd mostly likely consider for a next set. Although there is a seller on Etsy who makes some incredible looking Soviet style sets. I could be tempted. . . Although, if I'm being honest, I think the board below is just 'too much'

Beautiful set, beautiful photos...those TCE Chavet knights, though. 😘

@Krames - thank you for taking the time to post these pictures. Lovely stuff.

The board is a beauty and I am taken by the effortless class - for the lack of a better description - of two sets in particular- your Noj and Chavet sets. Simple and elegant.

Initially - when I started to collect wooden chess pieces - I was attracted to the more intricately carved sets but as time passes - I quite like clean lines.

On your bridle knights …. Yours appear to be distance runners … sleek and slender necks - I have the 2016 Bridle Knight Series and they are of a more portly, stockier form. 😊

Krames

@powderdigit - I agree 100% about tastes changing over time, I'd say we're very much in the same boat. And thanks for the kind words about the sets!

TheOneCalledMichael

Oh wow that's a grand as in majestic board yes. I'd imagine such board is meant for intricately pieces. Can't wait to see your next purchase for that board happy.png

@Krames Your new set is stunning! Love it! I am also interested though in all the details that @Pawnerai asked about. Could you please let us know how everything went from a process perspective? How was the collaboration with Noj?

Krames

@ddragos - thanks so much for the kind words!!! I'm in the camp that says business between 2 people is exactly that, business between those 2 people. I can comfortably say, without any question, Gregor is an absolute pleasure to deal with. I would describe him as 'perfect' with regard to communication the whole way through. I have zero issue with anything that happened from start to finish, it was a perfect experience from my side. I can recommend Noj without any hesitation. I hope that's enough to answer your question. If you'd like to know more, pls message me privately, thanks!

That's a very nice line up there @Krames, thanks for sharing and congratz on the Noj. I agree with Michael, that board fits perfectly with the Dubrovnik. I'm really liking the TCE knights also
