It's an excellent engine.

Rybka is currently the top-rated chess engine. There's a free version and two pay versions available, depending on your budget... and it works fine with Arena.

Oh, good one!  Didn't realize there was a freebie.

pardon my ignorance, but what is Arena? (aside from an event center in english, and sand in spanish?)

It's a nice chess GUI app for use with UCI engines.

Use either fire 1.31 or houdini 1.03a, they are both free and are the strongest engines avaliable

It was Latin before it was Spanish. They'd spread sand (arena) on the ground to soak up gladiators' blood between rounds. Hence the "event center" is called an arena.

For beginners ICC Dasher is good. There are too many levels to play.

I used Prodeo engine with Arena. I beat it only once though a 1400+ player.
