My BCE1E. Sorry the pictures are so dark.

Cgrau, great looking set, but I'm a bit confused, where did the black pieces come? Another set, or do you have a triple set?
I actually have a 4" Monarch "quad" set (from HOC), with four armies -- in boxwood, sheesham, dark rosewood, and bud rosewood, which gives me the option of playing with six different wood combinations! Making it easier to match the pieces with different color chess boards.
Lou, thanks. I have a BCE tournament set in black, and a friend who owns an NOJ BCE in black, and I took some pics comparing them. I posted them in an earlier forum. That Monarch quad set seems pretty cool.
Here is a Romanian set I bought from Goodknightmike. I love it. Not really dark red, but plenty red enough.

Lou, thanks...That Monarch quad set seems pretty cool.
Here's a picture of the "Wee 4" kings" -- sheesham, blood rosewood, boxwood, and dark rosewood.
The perfect set for those of us with dissociative identity disorder, with 6 possible playing combinations! Now if I can only find a box to carry them all in.

Thanks, Lou. Perhaps a wheelbarrow.
Lou, have you thought about buying an ebony army? That would bring the number of combinations up to 10, though I am not sure ebony-dark rosewood would be very playable. 😀

Ari, I have one ebony set, and one is enough!
Personally, I find that the super dark woods (ebony & dark rosewood) mask the details of the chess pieces. So why pay a premium for ebony when the pieces look better in sheesham, blood/bud rosewood, and padauk!
Here's the story. I originally purchased the Monarch set in bud rosewood. After a few months, I thought it would be nice to have another army, so I ordered a 17-piece half-set in, what I thought, was a light rosewood. When the pieces arrived, they were much darker than the pictures online. As a remedy, I later ordered another set in sheesham, for about 1/3 less than the bud rosewood set, with free shipping.
And that's how I ended up with my boxwood, sheesham, dark rosewood, and bud rosewood 'quad' Monarch set.
Hi
Wondering if is there other dark red stained beside the Dubrovnik set?
