Eyechess: What do you mean "comfortable"? How much extra were the queens?
Are 4 Queens an important requirement for a chess set?
I also like a pair of extra queens if possible.
I woudn't call it a requirement, but I much prefer it.
he just means if he ever needs them it's covered, it's kinda like insurance makes you comfortable
...exactly!
The price of extra queens for each set is listed on the Noj site with that set. I own 4 Noj sets and all of them have extra queens.

Is it possible to request extra queens at some kind of price? Anyway I thought extra queens was a pretty normal thing.

I much prefer it. For whatever reason, multi-queen games appear to come up more in my play than they seem to in cghori's. If you look at the tournament game RCMacmillan and I recently played, for example, there were variations we easily could have reached with three or four queens on the board. In the old days, we turned over rooks. That was fine when I was fifteen. Now I've come to appreciate the aesthetics of chess pieces and chess boards, and from an aesthetic point of view, I'd much rather play with the proper piece than a miscast stand-in. At this point of my life, playing with that overturned rook is like scratching chalk across a blackboard, but maybe that metaphor is meaningless in the white board world we now live in. House of Staunton's innovation in providing extra queens is aces with me, and I am delighted that it's become pretty much an industry standard, one which I'm happy to promote.
Yes, I ordered extra Queens. I felt more "comfortable" with them. I realized just a number of weeks ago that I really did not use them.
