I love the idea (screen glare is the worst) but my interest would be limited by cost. Not sure if this is real or aspirational, I don't have experience with Kickstarter projects.
Atlas E-Ink Electronic Chess
But ... using an existing device (tablet/phone) and an Android free app wouldn't be better ? What on earth is that idea ? ![]()
If it comes out at like $50 to $75, I would invest in it no problem. But over $100 .... I doubt it. And I have a feeling they are gonna go for the $150 or so price point.
Yes, but ... just use Lichess on your (Android/iOS) device, enable night mode, disable notifications ... et voilà ... you're fine to go ! Simple as that (and no additional hardware cost) ! ![]()
Re #3: screen brightness and glare of the existing tablet/phone are an issue for some of us. Not that a dedicated eink chess device is necessarily the solution, but it's a reasonable idea.
That's ok but ... consider its limitations: platform support (only Lichess), refresh rate (e-ink is too slow for blitz/bullet), and ... unproven status (still in pre-launch, no shipping date or reviews, likely expensive, Kickstarter risk, campaigns can fail or deliver defective products). Android beats it "across the board" !!! ![]()
Just saw this today. Anyone know anything about it?

On the one hand, it looks kinda cool. On the other hand, I could just use my phone or iPad. On the third hand, or maybe a foot, it would be nice to have a small dedicated device.
In the end, my interest will probably be determined by how much it costs.
