I always recommend Reubin Fine's Chess the Easy Way Its opening analysis is almost as complete as his Ideas Behind the Openings (neither book teaches by route) with good endgame situations as well. It is also old enough to be reasonably priced. Paid $35 for a paperback novel recently. Were 35 cents in my childhood. I realize you didn't need to hear that, just venting.
which book would you recommend for somone who understands the basics in chess?
