That is rather eye catching!
Chavet B210 Reproduction
The heads of the knights are not a good copy of the original, nor is the heads of the bishops. Of course, making a good copy of chavet chess is not an easy task. The original Chavet still stands heads and shoulders above.

I recently received a reproduction of the Chavet from Chess Empire; you can see it in this video.

It is the best reproduction I have seen, small details to improve; the number of undulations in the queen's crown, the original has 10 the reproduction 11; the rook's floor is very deep.
@foreverwin Great video! Unfortunately my video skills would not be up to it or I would have made one too. Yeah, a great set, I'm really happy with it. I don't think the rooks floor is as deep on my set, maybe slightly later manufacture.
I ordered mine today.
sound67 is right. These newer sets are most likely better than the originals

Everything is about patience to make the videos; you're right; your rooks look more similar to the originals.

Good, we just want to share our happiness to have found the most similar to the original today. Tell the seller not to make the floor of the rooks so deep.

your welcome

I've gifted chess sets to friends and family over the years - Still haven't converted a single one of them into the same type of hardcore chess fan as we are.
I collect a lot of art prints and very expensive figures and am very new to chess. However I have been enjoying looking at vets on this forum from EyeChess to Sound with their incredible collections. With chess I am obsessed with owning several 1970s Lardy Chess sets and have been able to hunt down a few so far. I am delighted to re-felt all of these and play with them a lot. The only ones I want to own is the vintage B210 Chavet and a NOJ 1950 Minceta hybrid. If I add those two to the three 4.25" 1970 Lardy's I have then I will happy. I love being very selective with sets and its unlikely that over the next few decades I will want to have dozens.
"Grey".....Once you get started, there's no guarantee you'll be happy if you keep eyeballing the stuff some of these guys own......Incredible!
Remember to never say never. If you keep looking at sets, especially here, you most likely will find and buy when you never imagined you would do so.
I started out about 6 years ago on this forum. At the time I owned about 6 wood sets. There were a number of posters that were collectors owning a high number of sets, 80 to over 400. I was and am a player and not a collector. I only want to own sets that I will use to play. I have no desire to own sets just to own them.
At the time, red Dubrovnik sets were the rage. Now, red is my favorite color. And I did own a Noj Dubrovnik set that I bought back in 2010 at a very nice and lower price. So I just had to get a Noj Dubrovnik in red. Then a collector that owned over 300 sets did a review with pictures of the Noj GM Pavasovic set. Well, that was put on the list and then bought.
In the meantime people would post pictures of sets from Official Staunton, The House of Staunton, and Chess Bazaar, along with older original sets that caught my eye and desire. I never really bought too many too fast, but after 5 years or so I looked up and had well over 35 sets to use in play.
Awhile back I said to myself that I could really not see any more designs I felt I needed. Well, I did realize that there were maybe 2 that I would get if they became available. And one was this Chavet set. So, here I am buying this one.
Yeah, never say never.

LOL! That sounds like me. We're like a couple of addicts justifying their addiction 😃. Only a matter of time before a family member stages an intervention. GLW the Chavet set, I'm sure you'll love it. I still think it's the best "playing set" design made. Very simple but yet elegant. I would rate the original dubrovnik a very close second mind you.
Just received the latest Chavet reproduction from Rishi at The Chess Empire. In my opinion this is easily the best reproduction of this set made to date. It really is top quality as illustrated by the photos below. In each case the repro is on top with the original beneath. I included photos of the Staunton Castle and Chess Bazaar sets also. I think these are all the copies of this great set available (?).

All 3 are very nice playing sets but I think the Chess Empire version has captured the feel of the old Chavet set much better. The wood used, indian boxwood (gardinia latifolia), is slightly different to the vintage european boxwood (buxus sempervirons), so I have no idea if they will age the same way. The Chess Empire set is also a bit heavier than the original (about 25% more). Whether this is a plus or a minus depends entirely on you preference. Great to see these old sets come back to life, particularly those that are very difficult to get now.
