Chess Bazaar - Beware of guarantee

How much does it cost to ship 2 pieces from your location back to India? In the US it costs about $40usd to send a small package to India. For many people that's enough of a deterrent to just drop the issue. I mean, at that point, unless you really love the set, just try and return the whole set for a refund and get your money back. @ZIMBABWAEED1989 says he's been waiting 11 months for replacement pieces. No thanks.

4 months here, they told me yesterday  that they are going to send replacement (2 pieces) by standard mail. We'll see how it goes.

Today, I got an e-mail from CB apologizing for the inconvenience and saying they will replace two of the four knights, the ones with a bigger lean/outline (the pair in the middle of the picture).

They also said that CB will ship by standard post (for sure to reduce expenses).

Let’s see if I will receive the replacements or if I will have the same fate as our colleague Edward, who is waiting for the replacement for 11 months now and counting.

This episode reminded a saying from Churchill .“they can always be relied upon to do the right thing - having first exhausted all possibles alternatives”.

I will inform when the replacements arrive.

@ferpesan Hopefully CB saw some of the "heated" words on the forum and it lit a fire under them to act. Please keep us updated on if/when you receive the pieces to your satisfaction.

So now CB doesn't want their poor quality leaning Knights back? I wonder if they seriously wanted them back at all in the first place?

CB must REALLY hate @ZIMBABWAEED1989 for some reason. shock.png

Ya' post a complaint here and you get action! Too bad it has to come to that, but it works.

I hope all of you guys get what you paid for.

CB  used standard post to send me replacements last May.  I am still waiting.  CB never answered my many email,s , asking ---Can the package be traced?  Is the package insured? I did get replacement pieces sent by India Post. That was when I first became a CB customer. India Post  can work, but it can,t be relied upon.

@ferpesan I am glad they agreed. Hopefully it won’t take too long to get those replacements. Those middle two definitely should be replaced.

Quick update:

CB sent the 2 replacements knights by DHL instead of standard post. Didnt expect that.

I will share the pictures after the arrival.

Take care and good games!

Man! we’re all hoping this turns out good for you.

Ibuildchess

Yikes, I hope that the knights are of good quality and they match your existing pieces! Fingers crossed for you to have this resolved.

MCH818

Fingers crossed!

Hope it turns out great.....My experiences with some C.B. replacements were issues with either color match to the original pieces,or different proportions.

On one occasion I had to buy 2 new Knights and even they did not have the same proportions as the original set's Knights.

In you case I hope you get perfection.

ferpesan

CB did it.

Thanks guys for the support!

GGs to everyone!

I've bought 2 or 3 sets from them and so far so good. I guess I've been lucky. RCM on the other hand....GRRRR!!!! Glad it worked out for you.

Are these the new ones?! Just kidding. We’re all glad this had a happy ending for you. It’s a miracle.  I got next game!

I have two sets from Chesbazaar. The Fierce knight set, and the 2014 Sinquefield cup set. Luckily, I've never had any issues with Chessbazaar.

MCH818

Looking good! I’m glad it has been resolved.

Well, when Chessbazaar does big discounts on certain chess sets there might be some good reason for it therefore caution seems wise in case imperfect chess pieces have slipped through.

No, Spanish Eunuch. When they sell an imperfect set they'll mark it as such. Whether the discount on such a set is sufficient is a matter of debate. I owned 25 CB sets (before I stopped collecting and sold most of them off), and except for minor problems they were always a good bang for the buck. At least they were back in 2019.

I am planning to buy either the German Knight from Chess Bazaar or the Timeless pieces from DGT Shop. I would really like to buy from Chess Bazaar but by reading some of the comments here and looking at Trustpilot rating of CB, I'm thinking of purchasing from the DGT shop.

@fabrosph german knights will most probably be ok. Problems usually are the high-end ones. Economonical popular models are easy to manufacture and they already had mastered manufacturing it.

I see. Ok thanks.
