The newest Ray Gordon mystery is now available! It all started with "Even Dead Men Play Chess." Now, "The Grandmaster's King" follows former cop turned chess teacher Ray Gordon as he tries to discover who is killing the players at the US Chess Championship.

Both books can be found here:

or at Amazon, B&N and other online bookstores.

Check them out, read an excerpt and jump in! Who knew there was a seedy side to chess?!

Thanks for the recommendation.

Are you Michael Weitz?

ChessAuthor

I am. I love chess and I love mysteries, so I combined the two in my writing.

ilgambittoo

I will read if it is a free one pdf.

Coder_On_Ster01ds

Yes, chess is so easy that even former cops can turn fully qualified chess teachers!

Got the sample on my kindle. First paragraph made worry, unfortunate choice of metaphors and all. Charlie's description I found a bit overdone, but I kept going on (for Chess's sake) and it reads ok after that.

Guess I'll buy it.

Coder,

The character has been playing chess his whole life. Teaching chess wasn't something he just decided to do, but something he felt was important enough to do when he left the police force.

Very nice, I hope it sells well!

Ruby-Fischer

Is it a comedy?

@ChessAuthor

Keep in mind that I mean no offense. I said the first thing that came to my mind as a chess player. Playing chess as a hobby is one thing, playing it good enough to teach others is something else. I don't know anything about your character (first learned of him here) but if you say he is experienced in chess, then he is. I must say it is interesting to see a novel with a main character who plays chess. I will probably check the sample on my Kindle. Other than that, good luck with your books!

Just posting to keep this thread in mind, as I am going to buy both books as soon as I get the xmas-new year bills under control.

@Coder, no offense taken. I appreciate everyone's thoughts and ideas. I know it's all subjective! I really enjoy the game, although I must admit I am certainly not an expert. My goal, really, is to introduce people who have never played chess to the game. With my first novel, Even Dead Men Play Chess, I was successful in that several readers told me they'd never played chess, found it intimidating even, but after reading my book thought they would give it a try.

Any way, thank you for your interest either way. :)

@ winerkleiner, thank you for your support!

@ Ruby-Fischer, while both books have comedic elements (the main character is a bit of a smart-aleck), they are mysteries.

@dashkee94, thank you very much. I hope you enjoy them!

Drummy49

I have to say that it is awesome you are combining two of your passions, chess and writing/mysteries. When I finish up some my current reading I will consider giving Ray Gordon a read!

@ Drummy49, Thank you for your interest. If you decide to pick them up, I hope you enjoy them!

lasertswift

I love chess novels and have quite a collection so I will probably pick up both.

Can you keep us informed on how many books sell through 2014?
