Hi there,

I'm new to the community for about a month. I like to be more well-rounded with my chess experiences in addition to playing it. I'm wondering if anyone has come across books with central theme related to chess or major characters being chess players? Thank you

Are you asking about fiction and non-fiction books that have chess as a central theme?

If so, here’s a list:

I’ve read The Eight, The Fire, and The Chess Machine. I’ve watched the movie adaptations of The Luzhin Defense and Queen of Katwe. I’ve read and watched Searching for Bobby Fischer. All good reads and movies.

Fictions

Thanks. I've read the Luzhin Defense. Have you read the one man by Andrew Gross?

No I haven’t. I read the synopsis. Is it a book that’s chess-related where chess is Not just a prop? [EDIT]

The one man is a novel with a central character being a prodigy chess master in the concentration camp (set in WWII)

So that’s the “knowledge” that he Was the only one left to possess?
I’ll check it out since I’m a fan of WW2 stories and themes.

This "EIGHT" book is great!

It about a chess set & has chess players in it. It's fiction, has humor, intrigue, love .

The Fire is the sequel to The Eight. I admit that I was more engaged with All the historical aspects that was referenced in The Eight. It felt like reading The Da Vinci code for the first time.

Hello ChessAuthor. I read the synopsis of your Even Dead Men Play Chess. It reminded me of the 80s book with a movie adaptation, The Name of the Rose.
GoodReads.com should have their list updated.

@chessroboto, I will take that as a compliment! I really enjoyed The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco. I also enjoyed The Eight, but like others, not so much the follow up.
