Chess software for the Mac

I have Sigma for the Mac (lite version-free).  I am wondering if there is any good training software for the Mac.

Which Mac do you have? If you have one of the Intel generation, from Core Duo onwards, then you can install Windows Vista or Windows 7 in Bootcamp - it's a very straightforward process.

I have done that on two of my Macs, and now have access to all the PC chess software out there. Runs perfectly on them. I chose not to use Parallels or similar software, which lets you run both Operating Systems at the same time. That's because the CPU has a bigger load then. So I use the Startup Disk selector in System Preferences, and boot up in Windows when I want to use Fritz 12, Chessbase, ICC Dasher and other software.

You can also use Ignatius to access ICC from the Mac OS.

I actually bought Shredder, and it's a good application, but it doesn't offer training software in the manner offered by Chessbase/Fritz, for instance.

Is there a way I can get fritz without installing boot camp?

If your Mac has the Intel Core Duo chip, in original or later versions, then you can install Windows. I'm running Vista.

Fritz is available for PCs, which means that you must make your Mac run a Windows OS that fits the app's requirements. See below.

You have Bootcamp, Parallels or VMWare as good tested options for running Windows. With Bootcamp, you have to leave the Mac OS and boot in Windows; with the others, you can run Windows and Mac OS simultaneously, but at the cost of the CPU being shared by two OS's, unless you're doing extremely deep analysis, that's not a problem.

System requirements: Minimum: Pentium III 1 GHz, 512 MB RAM, Windows Vista, XP (Service Pack 3), DirectX9 graphics card with 256 MB RAM, DVD-ROM drive, Windows-Media Player 9, internet access (playchess.com, updates and activation). Recommended: PC Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.4 GHz, 3 GB RAM, Windows Vista or Windows 7, DirectX10 graphics card (or compatible) with 512 MB RAM or more, 100% DirectX10 compatible sound card, Windows Media Player 11, DVD ROM drive and internet access (playchess.com, updates and activation).

Wait a minute -- I thought this was the best training software for Linux.
