Jörn is working to support the older mini usb boards as far as I know.
Also, as far as I know the BT boards are only updatable to update the BT protocols as they evolve. According to one of the Lichess developers. I’m no expert by any means.
Jörn told me and I'm looking forward to beta testing the bleeding edge version, but in the off chance it was possible why not? DGT's materials say the USB only is not field updatable, so aside from some h/w hacking (assuming you could even get the latest firmware image) it's not worth the effort, so I'll just wait. I did see a livechess connection video 3 years old, that permitted DGT connection on lichess, but it was rather kludgy. chessconnect is far more streamlined.

The DGT website has BT and a loader app if you need to update your firmware.
That would be great if it's possible. I have a USB only board, I was under the impression I wasn't able to update the firmware on those? (In principle it would be possible via a USB connection, but I'm not sure they put an EEPROM in the board itself for that capability given it's age).
You can upgrade the module if required. A few on here have done it.
As far as I can tell, that would require disassembling the unit at a minimum since a software only method isn't available except for Bluetooth or Revelation boards unless you are aware of some other solution not shown on their website. (ie here is all that I know of that's available no links can be inserted apparently: "xxxx://digitalgametechnology.com/support/software/software-downloads" ). My only reason to want to do this would be for protocol compatibility for chessconnect or the like, the board itself works fine with engines.
