It seems it is possible to use the Chessmaster GUI with other engines (i.e., other than The King). I am not that interested in using The King with other GUIs.

Yeah, I messed around with that before I transitioned to Linux. I experimented with running other engines (both Winboard and UCI) in the CM GUI and running The King engine in other GUIs (Arena). It's a lot of work; I'm not sure it's worth the effort, lol.

This is the one I need.

I never cared much for Battle Chess, but I think it was fairly popular. You can find it everywhere, I'm sure. Amazon, eBay, all the abandonware sites, Ed Schröder's site, and I think even Franz Huber's site. If you can't find a copy, you're not trying very hard. :-)

Looks awesome. This is what they would use on the NCC-1701.

Except on the NCC 1701 you'd have a painted-on monitor menu. 😉

Hahaha ok, the D version then. Not Kirk's.

I'll dig up the topic - yes, it's true. The personalities, the ability to play tournaments with them, the look.... If it lived online like chess.com, it would be fab.

I remember setting my interface up using this blueprint theme myself.

At this point, we have to resort to the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine for the download. I believe the set I used was misimatt's "2D Fritz maple" board.
