I'm wondering which you prefer?

Recently I tried blitz chess online and liked it.  Introduced my son to it and he also liked it.  So we decided to buy a chess clock to play blitz, but I don't know which one I should buy.

I have a Chronos GX with touch buttons. I like it.

I kinda hate the whack-it-down mechanical switches, although I do get the appeal. Like the good old days in a college dorm playing blitz with chess buddies on BHB clocks.

The advantage of the mechanical clock buttons is by god know you hit the clock. You know it and you feel it. I hit that button!

I like the quiet of the touch buttons, but they lack the certainty of the mechanicall buttons.

I agree with ipcress12.

I have owned 2 touch sensor clocks and sold both of them.  The feedback of the button press makes a big difference, especially in blitz.

I'ved never owned a touch sensor clock, but I've seen some people who double touch the touch sensor clocks as a normal practice. Those people apparently perceive it to be a problem.

I love my Chronos touch sensor clocks.  Nobody who has used these clocks in an OTB game with me has ever complained.  Part of this, I think, is to make sure the "beep" sound and LED lights are turned "On" in the programming... gives good enough feedback to make up for the "click" loss.

For blitz and other rapid games, where even a second's delay can make a difference, the silent touch sensors may cause a player to hesitate and check to verify if the touch was "registered".  In a non-rapid play games, this is not so much of an issue.  So for rapid games, mechanical plungers, with their "positive" physical feedback, may be preferred.

Is there a problem with mechanical buttons that stop working after a lot of use for blitz?

In my experience there is no problem with the Chronos buttons failing, ever.

The DGT rocker arms also seem to never have any problems.

I did have problems with a Saitek clock but that is no longer made.
