It's basically a one-man shop. The guy used to sell his boards on ebay. I bid on a few but always lost out. His work is top notch and he always answered my emails promptly. He offers so many custom combinations. His chess tables are stunning. Never ended buying from him, but got rave reviews on ebay. I remember his starting bids on boards were always $1 but ended going for several hundred.
There are several folks here who own one of his boards, including myself. There are pics posted in some old threads. I think he does real quality work and his boards hold up over time as they are built properly (unlike some of the boards offered on Etsy that are just wood strips glued together and that have a good chance of warping over time).
That being said, I have come to prefer simple veneer boards - a lot of the custom hardwood boards are just to pretentious and big for real play.
@ Frank: I can relate to that. Just a few months ago, I was still looking at MTM Wood's boards. Although they look like excellent quality, they are quite thick, again to prevent warping. I think around 3-4 cm. That's just not for me I think. It would make me feel as though I am playing on a cutting board or a butcher's block or something.
Check out Colorado Woodworker on ETSY.com. I own one of his solid wood boards. The quality is very good and the prices are more than reasonable....

This small company in Michigan makes custom chess boards. They are expensive. Has anyone had any experiences with their product?
