Thanks.

You are welcome. By the way the number is 832.97 for these sets. Good luck trying to find them. They are no where to be found online to be sold.

OK I will contribute.

Nice Drueke 820.40 set.

I really like the Players Choice set. It was the best set they ever made.

So if it was so popular why was the drueke line discontinued? Has anyone ever tried to buy the rights to it and resurrect it?

THANK YOU for creating this thread and to all who have contributed so far.  I have an ivory set with carved wood box bought in antique shop in Amsterdam in 1965 which I will photograph & show later. It is old enough a few of the dark pieces have wooden repairs.  When built ivory was conserved by making the king out of four pieces that screw together: base, stem, crown, finial. The design is unusual.

I absolutely love the Soviet Grossmeister sets. These are two of my favourites, both late 60's. I was told by the seller that the one on the glossy board was used in the Kaluga tournaments in the early 70's, though unfortunately I have no provenance for this as yet.

Although not rare, the Soviet Valdai set is also a thing of real beauty.

Final one for today - also not very rare, but this minimalist Soviet set from the 70's is a real aesthetic treat, in my opinion.

LondonDungeon

I love that minimalist soviet set.

Thanks Mike

Here's a closer look at the white army. I think it's got quite a Scandinavian feel to it.

I wonder if it was intentional that the minimal soviet set looks like ammo. The rooks look like shotgun shells and the bishops look like rifle rounds.

Apart from the nice sets on display this thread is teaching me something else...my photography is absolute pants. Need to up my game.

You must be really bad after looking at my pics.

Actually your photos look good to me, nicely split between different armies. Maybe its just that everyone else set up their photos correctly and I lazily took a photo of the two sets I had on a kitchen table at the time. 😊 Horrendous lighting and parallax (?) error.

I have the same Centurion set from HoS. It's one of my favorites.

This is an antiqued New York 1924 4.4" set from HOS. HOS was developing their antiquing process and gave me a good deal on it. A year later they were selling the antiqued set as the London Timeless. The board was made by CustomChess and is still shown in their gallery of Unique Chess Boards. I bought it off eBay from a previous owner.

Few photos of my current favorite a  Jaques/Geoffrey Parker set. This set was made in 1970’s. It has 3.75” King and has really nice play feel.

Very solid (and heavy) leather case made by Geoffrey Parker

Nicely carved knights (although not quite at the level of antique Jaques sets) All pieces have stamped leather pads Only white king is stamped
