DGT Revolutionary Chess Computer?
Regarding some chess computer sites in Germany it might be out in Sept/Oct. . Personally I would think October or November .
I just hope it will comes out in 2018.
A guy from Topschach.de played a prototype and what engine they use is unknown. But the prototype has a "adaptive" playing level regarding to his blog post. So no Stockfish hopefully .
These are excerpts from August 13 emails sent to me from DGT: "This chess computer has several build in engines, so it doesn’t work with Fritz16. We hope we can release the Centaur in October 2018. The retail price will be about €350,-. Did you subscribed to our newsletter? We will sent a newsletter when we release this great DGT product."
"This chess computer is just like the Revelation but a affordable version. You can’t use it with the Fritz 16. There is only one connection for charging the computer. The squares are 48mm. This chess computer will be delivered with pieces."
Not being connectable to a PC is deal breaker for me 😒. It would have been a perfect board for online play as well as a stand alone computer.
I don't expect this in 2018 to be released. Hope the rings will not be visible on the board when it's not necessary
Anyone knows if the board will have pieces recognition for easy position setups? This is one of my main goals. To be able to practice positions...

From what I could see from promo video there will be no piece recognition so one needs to setup position from the menu.

Which video? That's a prototype.
Yes, lets wait untill it is released and we have the full specs before jumping to conclusions. I hope they don't change the design though, because I like it alot.

The promo 3 min video. You have a menu an there's a "set pieces" submenu. Meaning you will have to setup init position. I don't think they will change that. It means hardware changes to the board and pieces.
