A small piece of duct tape should cover it with minimum effort. Oh, if you go urban decorator you could get "duck" tape with about a bazillion different patterns and colors to choose from. If you go with a nice black and white checkered tape, you can tell everyone it's a special edition. Just take care to use a cardboard template first if you want to make it look "factory". Or just slap a piece on and start trimming. It gums up scissors though, so another vote for using cardboard to size it. Why yes, I do believe I have overthought this...
Do you reckon acetone could remove Bobby Fischer’s name?

do not use acetone on that plastic it will melt, cover it up with a sticker or get fine 3000+ sandpaper and polish it off or both.

Thanks fellas I think I'll cover it. I want one as soon as they are available. As for the acetone on plastic, I was afraid it would dissolve it.
Actually, from actual experience with this type of plastic, the acetone will smear the white "ink". It will not remove it.

You might try dipping a Q-tip cotton swab in acetone, rub it on a small area to see to what extent it dissolves the paint, while wiping away the dissolved paint with a paper towel. In other words, do a very small spot, using the acetone sparingly and wipe it away rather quickly. I doubt that the plastic will melt if you are careful about the application of the acetone and wipe it away in a timely manner.
Also be careful to not allow actetone to come into direct contact with your skin for any length of time more than a few seconds as it can burn your skin; if your skin comes into contact with it, rinse/wash quickly with (preferably soapy) water. Rubber gloves (you can buy at the drug store) might come in handy.

Can't help you with the actual problem.....its just nice to see someone who has the timeline correct....."He was a genius and lunatic".......IN THAT ORDER!
chess genius......intellectually and socially deficient.....emotionally immature...

I agree the color combo is nice but the Bobby Fischer logo is a bit much. Since I have about 3 chess clocks at the moment. I am in no need to get another clock that does the same thing as the ones I do have do.

Orange oil. Cut a piece of pressed cotton to the size of the area you want to remove; soak it with the oil. Place the patch on the printed area and let stand for two whole days. Do not let the oil touch other printed areas. After two days, take a piece of acetate paper and try to lift the letters using it as a spatula. If the print remains attached; repeat. Do not try to rub or you will end up with a white stain that is impossible to remove.

It seems like I remember Fischer once developing a new type clock, and RonaldJosephCote is probably right, it goes with the patent or copyright.

Do not doubt. It will melt. You will get a discolored smeared spot. His is not a guess, people have done it and not with random plastic but with THAT plastic on chess clocks.

I don’t know if this would make much difference to you, but, just in case you do not know, Fischer is no longer alive.
I've 25 years of industrial experience with polymers (plastics, rubbers, etc.) It is impossible to say what the effect of acetone on the plastic will be unless you know what the plastic is, and unless you have access to some fancy chemical analytical equipment, you really can't tell what the plastic is.
The best you can do is to try what RussBell (comment #6) suggested, with a bunch of different solvents - acetone, orange oil (as RobertoLM suggested, comment #11), rubbing alcohol, paint thinner and whatever else you can find at the local hardware store.

Or you can actually do it to a chess clock and know what the results are by that simple experiment. this specific plastic will specifically melt in a specific way. several people in this thread are telling you that. you think he is the first person who has tried to remove the logoes/writings of the DGT chess clock?

this specific plastic will specifically melt in a specific way. It depends on how carefully, sparingly and quickly you apply/remove the acetone. I recommend to try the procedure I outlined earlier.

Another option, if you are good at the assembly aspect: disassemble the clock and ask for a polisher (or sandpaper by hand). Sand the blue cover until it looks even. This will allow you to also have a totally matte model. You can polish if you want a shiny look.

I like the DGT NA, I like the blue and black color scheme. I’ve decided that I will purchase the clock! At forty bucks I’ll do so as soon as they are available. Regardless of the controversial name. Already own several digital clocks. But at forty bucks, I could use another. I just think Fischer was a jerk. I do like the clock. I’ve resolved to get it. I may leave the logo I may cover it. I haven’t decided that yet. Thanks for the ideas.
One of the clocks I have is a DGT 960, I use it on Thursday nights at our chess club, we usually play 10 minute skittles game. I got to thinking about it, I reckoned I would still own this clock even if it said Fischer Random instead of 960!

Fischer was an awesome player but as a person. I agree was a jerk. As a person I can't respect him but as a player I can.
I'm not going to be that hard on Fischer for his mental illness. Considering his past, it isn't surprising that he had some paranoid tendencies that caused him to go down the antisemitic rabbit hole. I admire his playing ability and agree with him about some of the things he said about chess. I wish he had had a happier life.
I see that ACE is now marketing a custom DGT NA with a blue and black color scheme. I love the new colors and the DGT NA. Only trouble is, is that it has Bobby Fischer printed on it.
I’m glad he beat Spassky and the Soviets to bring the US a championship. I’m glad he was such an amazing player. I’m glad he promoted the game and raised the prize money fund for top players. I’m glad he invented FischerRandom Chess. (I prefer the term 960.) I’m glad he promoted the use of digital clocks and invented “bonus” or ”increment” even called “Fischer” timing. There is no doubt that his legacy and innovations were excellent for the advancement of the game we love.
I used to feel sorry for him. I thought the USA unfairly punished him after his ‘92 rematch with Spasky in which demonstrated his clock and incremental timing method. However, his hate field rant in the aftermath of the September eleventh, 2001 attacks is in excusable.
I realize his name is in the DGT manual and even on the bottom of the regular DGT NA clock for labeling the bonus time.
However, his name is huge on this cool looking blue and black clock. Fischer deserves credit, where credit is due for the innovations that he left on the game of chess. However, he was antisemetic and denounced the USA and his citizenship. He was a genius and lunatic.
I’m not trying to start a controversial thread. I’m just laying out a case as to why I wouldn’t want to have a clock with his name so prominently displayed on it. I really like the color scheme.
