Does Fritz 14 Analyze Chess960?

I recently upgraded from Fritz 13 to Fritz 14.  Unless I am mistaken, I recall being able to analyze Chess960 games in Fritz 13 no problem.  But today I tried to analyze a Chess960 game in Fritz 14 and nothing happens.  Am I missing a setting?  Or did Chessbase drop support for Chess960 analysis?

On my setup, Fritz 14 will analyze Chess960 games but won't use the Fritz 14 engine to do so.  Chess960 play and analysis works only with certain engines.

If you haven't already done so, try installing Stockfish 7 and use that for Chess960 play and analysis.  I don't know if this will work for you but it works for me.

Thanks for the tip.  I will checkout Stockfish.  How do I get it and add it to Fritz?

Go here ---->> http://stockfishchess.org/download/

Or click here ---->> Stockfish 7 for Windows

There's more than one compile in the package, so pick the one most compatible with your PC.  After downloading and unpacking the files to a directory of your choice, you will install the engine from the Engine tab in Fritz, as shown is this very brief video ---->> http://1drv.ms/1JWuRrx

I hope this helps.

This worked!  Thank you so much!  Much appreciated!

Could I ask one more question?  What are the different stockfish engines?  I went with Stockfish 64, but I see there is a pop-something and another one as well.  I couldn't find any description in the readme.

Make that two questions: how do I go back to the Deep Fritz 14 engine?  Unless I am reading it wrong, it looks like it is now loading Stockfish by default.  ???  Do I need to deactivate the engine in the engine management screen?

Sorry for all the questions.

Again, thanks!

To change the active engine back to Fritz, click on the 'engine' tab and select 'change main engine' at the far left side...you'll then see all your installed engines and just have to select your choice.

The choice of stockfish engines is dependent on your computer system/processor...let us know the specs of your machine and we can advise.

Thank you for the assistance.  As for my system, I have an Intel Core i7-3770 processor 3.40 GHz  with 8 gigs of RAM, Win 10 x64.

As for getting the engine back to Fritz, when I select "change main engine," all that appears is Stockfish!  However, when I click on the Engine Management screen, there is Stockfish as well as about four different Fritz engines all running (Fritz 11SE, Fritz 13, Fritz 14, and Fritz 14 x64).  ???

Again, sorry for all the questions.  I haven't messed with engines like this before.  Thanks for the help!

EDIT: I am using the Steam version of Fritz 14 / Deep DLC.

After you play or analyze chess 960, Fritz will display only chess 960 compatible engines.  This is why you aren't seeing Fritz 14 anymore when you click to change the engine.  You're in "chess 960 mode," so to speak.

Click "new game" and you should see a pop-up asking what type of game - choose "chess" in lieu of "chess 960" and thereafter Fritz will again appear in the list of engines.

You have a decent processor and should choose the "stockfish 7 x64 popcnt" compile - it will give better performance than the "stockfish 64" compile.

Stockfish uses only 1 thread by default so you need to tell it to use 4 cores (threads).

Edit: Here's how you set the threads ---->> http://1drv.ms/1UItCNc

Again, thanks for the help!  You solution worked: I started a new traditional chess game and then I was able to select the regular Fritz engine.  Boy, could Chessbase make the UI any more convoluted?!?  Sheesh!

Thanks for pointing me to the correct Stockfish engine.  In fact, thanks for the Stockfish recommendation!  Seems like a great program!
