I suppose you are just joking. I congratulate you, because I'm still laughing.

Just curious about what Greco paint shows this chess set, as the Greco is contemporary of Cervantes and the Novel of Don Quixote was published only 9 years before the Greco's death. No much time to have a first "Don Quixote" chess set done and a painting of it by el greco...

That would mean that is the very first chess set ever made of Don Quixote, and about 400 years old.

The whole thing is a big non sense.

By the way It is impossible that the set goes to USA in 1930 after the civil war, as the civil war started in 1936.

Don't worry I need some paperweights, so I offer you 5$ by the whole set.

good joke

Yes of course, 9 years is the shortest time ever existed.

It doesn't seem like you understand what "the 1930's means".  I'll give you a hint: it doesn't mean exactly 1930

If it was after the civil war it would be 1940's not 30's (the civil war finished during 1939)

If you want to believe that from 1605 to 1614 the quixote became popular enough to make a chess set of it and a royal painter as El Greco made a picture with it ... ok, you are free

And of course, if you show me a single picture from Goya or El Greco with this chess set on it ... I will eat all my words...

The set by the way is exactly the same as a Circa 1970's as far as I know... But, I encourage you to get the 100.000$ in order to purchase it.

As I said, a good joke

Thank you. I have read books and seen movies about the Lincoln Batallion, the Americans who fought in the Spanish Civil War. My father was one of them. For whom the Bell Tolls is one of those famous books and movies. If you read what I wrote, I said "the 1930's", not 1930. I know that the Spanish Civil War started in 1936.My dad told me about it when I was a kid.

Based on that, I counter your offer of $5.00, or five cents, it's not clear, for the whole set and counter with $300,000 for the whole set. See if you can find another one besides this one, that I have on eBay with a bid of $15,000 as we speak.

I will post the El Greco painting tomorrow, but I'm afraid the set will have been sold by then.

OK. All in fun, but this kind of exercise is good for my history students to learn to analyze fraud and false information. Very impressed with some of your knowledge of the great Spanish painters and Spanish history. My 14 year old son took the photo with his phone. Technology has come a long way, as it really is a beautiful photo that I use on my website where I teach chess on YouTube. I assume that the set is 1960's or 1970's vintage from a hobby or store or gift shop in the US. That's all I know, but if you have a nice photo and a good writer, go to eBay. I bought a mint condition Manchester United chess set from England for about $80.00 on eBay. It is worth twice that to me as I am a big futbol fan. Value is what someone is willing to pay for something, nothing more, nothing less.
