Hi guys,

Found this chess set online and looking to see if theres a way to tell if it is made by Drueke based off of the photos.. I think the board may be but the pieces I am doubtful.  Either way a good looking set overall!

The board looks exactly like my Drueke board so it could be. I'm not an expert on them. I know next to nothing about wooden Drueke pieces so I have no idea about them.

Drueke was bought out in 90s sets were manufactured in India this is one such set the boards still Maude in USA. The company was Carom.

I actually bought this same design set as a Drueke back in about 1990. I never did like the set, especially the Knights. They felt like little stumps of wood, so I gave the set to an IM that was giving me lessons.

Where online?

The board is Dueke design but the chessmen are not and they are only a copy of the original.

The chess board looks like a JLP construction or a drueke design. The pieces are definitely note drueke. Look to be European made or an Indian made chess set.

The board is a later Drueke. The set is Indian, imported by Carrom and marketed under the Drueke name. They only tried that for a couple of years before giving it up as a lost cause.

I think the wooden sets Drueke sold were imported. They characteristically had a King with the rounded off top, a Bishop that looked like the HoS proline bishops, and chunky knights that were pretty ugly. The snout on the knight had a downturned chin that came to point.

I’m a tad fixated on the New York Fleur de lys find at present and trying to find out where the origin of this set may lay… it’s hard to see from the photos above but do the knights the OP posted have a chest insignia like this below … and is this the type of ugly snout noted above … would these pieces have anything at all to do with Drueke - see photos below and this link:https://www.chess.com/forum/view/chess-equipment/fleur-de-lys-new-york-circa-2000

I won’t hijack this thread but my intrigue has to do with who commissioned an Indian company to carve a wooden chess set with the French aspect of a Fleur de lys finial on the king…. And how did this end up for sale in New York. My guess is it has its heritage somewhere in the design of the similar set that HoS currently has for sale. Alas - it is no big issue - just a amateur collector’s enquiring mind.
