What's up with Everyman Chess. Their website is promising some sort earthshaking announcement in the next couple of days.

Is it too much to hope for that they have developed some chess training/publishing system that brings out the features of the IPAD?

I don't know, but maybe you shouldn't discuss this here, as Chess.com generally doesn't allow pro-competitor discussion. Can you also be more specific?

I would have thought that Everyman chess as a book publisher is not a competitor like playchess etc. Sorry if my message was inappropriate.

Check out their website for more info.

I too can't believe that Everyman is a competitor to Chess.com, an apologies if this interpretation is wrong.

Everyman did release an apple app the other day, its essentially a pgn reader.

As an ipad user, I continue to be extremely disappointed with the quality of the apps that are available as PGN readers.

Most seem to be built for the iphone, with no consideration of the extra possibilities that the screen size of the ipad has.

As a result the best situation is that you get an app with two screens - one with a board, and an extremely basic set of moves below, and another with the move, variations and any commentary.

Why can't we have both on the same screen - it really can't be that difficult, just write the app in landscape and there will be more than enough room for a good sized board and the commentary.

I just briefly tried the Chess Viewer made by Everyman.

I can access all my pgn files through dropbox and it supports multiple games in pgn file. There is no support for cbv database files. But then you can convert them into pgn's in chessbase.

I can browse through a game and when there are variations, the interface shows a popup with available moves. During the game you can click and access the plain file, showing the comments added to the moves. What bothers me here, is that while I navigate through the game on the board, there is no indication showing that there is an accociated comment to the move. I will have to click to access the comments to see if there are any.

I think this is a promising app considering the limits of the iPhone. I will definatly use it while sitting in the bus etc. It will be good for repeating those openings and files that I study at a real board or computer.
