Fritz 13 as GUI and Chessbase

Recently purchased Fritz 13 (not Deep). Am getting used to the Database function. I have read that Fritz is also the "GUI" for Chessbase, but I am uncertain of what that means. Do I still need to buy the Chessbase 11 product, or can I simply buy the Mega Database 2012 and use it with my copy of Fritz 13?

you could just download a free database and keep it up to date with theweekinchess pgn files every week. save yourself 170 dollars.

Fritz will work with any .pgn databases, Mega Database 2012 will work, but I agree with Immryr there are plenty of free .pgn databases out there

TWIC has stopped issuing weekly downloads, Livechessratings.com has PGN files for games from recent tournaments but only the ones where 2700 rated players take part.

Immryr

no it hasn't. one came out today.

Thanks for that, I assumed because the Chessbase direct download function doesnt work anymore that the games weren't available.
