Wish I could help! :(
Fritz 13 database problem

I'm wondering if there is anywhere we can go to get questions answered. I've been trying to get some personal databases to show up on the new "Database Browser" on Fritz 13 with no luck. The help file just says to put them in the default directory, but doesn't say what the default directory is, if it can be changed, or how to find out what it is currently set for. The example shows
\my documents\chessbase\shop, which presumably means
\users\<username>\my documents\chessbase\shop
(which makes sense since all the chessbase databases are located in a subdirectory of chessbase)
and I've tried using this directory without success. I've also tried creating test databases in many of the other directories that Fritz 13 uses without success.
I'm curious, has anyone gotten this feature to work, and if so, what are the details?

Not sure what you're trying to do exactly, but you can store databases anywhere you like with Fritz 13.
To direct Fritz to a location other than the default, open the Database window with F12.
Click "File" on the top menu of that window and you'll see recently opened and/or created databases in the pane on the right.
If you want to open another database, use the "Open" choice under the file menu and you'll get a familiar OS window where you can browse for the database you want to open.
Also remember that Fritz saves your games and PGN files in a .CBV database file. I created a Personal Games database and add my games to that after I play them for future reference and study.

There is a new feature in Fritz 13 that allows you to display all your databases in a single window called the "database browser". This is supposed to help people with a lot of databases so they can access any database with a single click, no need to spend a lot of time going to the directory it is located in to open it.
The idea is cool and would save me time if I could make it work, but the only example I have is the one provided in help and it didn't. It isn't a huge problem because I can continue to access the databases the same way I did in Fritz 12, but it would be real nice if I could get it to work.

The database browser window will show the most recently accessed databases in the right hand pane along with the path to that database. Unless it has been a while since you used a database, it should be shown in that pane and accessed with a single click. F12 window, right pane.

OK, I went through and opened a file from each of my databases, and none of them show up in the database browser window. But they do show up under "recent databases" from the pull down menu. Here is what the help file says about the Database Browser:
Database window - Menu View - Database Browser
A preview window has been integrated into the database window.
Databases are displayed that can be bought and downloaded from us.
The database can be activated with the menu View - Database Browser.
It is possible to change the format of the preview window by right clicking. The "Details" view is particularly informative. This shows for instance the place where the database is stored on the hard drive.
Clicking on a database symbol displays the game list in the left half of the database window. Double clicking on a game loads it into the board window.
Note: The browser only displays databases that have been stored in the default folder for databases.
This should be especially useful to help beginners handle databases.
Tip: If you want to display your own databases with the database browser copy them into the default folder. In the picture you can see that the databases have been copied into the folder /My Documents/ChessBase/Shop.
Now they can be directly accessed with the database browser.

I think Fritz only shows databases in its own browser that are stored with the .CBV database format, which is automatic when saving your PGN files into a created database. It does not "find" databases stored in other formats - you have to use the browse function to locate them and load them. It will read most common formats.
When working with adding files to my own created database, the last "working" database is always loaded into the viewer by default. If you want other databases, you can either click on them (.CBV) or browse to them in other folders. It is easiest to simply put them into the /Shop folder as the tip above describes. If you keep databases in another folder somewhere else or on another drive, you can browse to use them.

Oddly I have a database appearing in the 'database browser' area that is in an altogether different folder than the others. This feature of the database window is really mysterious.

In Fritz 13 (which I assume is a minor update to 12), the F12 key opens the Database function window. In that window, under the "File" menu is the familiar choice of "Open" with a right hand "Recent databases" pane that lists all recently opened or saved databases, regardless of their location.
Clicking the "Home" tab shows games from the last-used database which remains as a 'sticky' choice until you select another. The databases listed in the right hand pane from that "Home" menu are a smaller subset of the "Recent databases" listing under "File" tab.
And of course under the "File -> Open" menu you can open any database anywhere by using the familiar "Browse" window that will open into your operating system folder trees.
Hello everyone. I'm using fritz 13 with deep rybka 4 engine for analysis of my games. Problem I'm experiencing is that I've collected all or most of my chess.com online games and put them in self made database (let's call it "checcsom" database).
Main problem appears when I try to filter games in database. I'd like to start analyzing my mistakes in most of games. And since I can run analysis at night and check thru the day it makes everything just perfect. But..
I'd love to focus on my lost games as white first. By using game filter I can set to 0-1 no problem, I get al of 0-1 games in whole database. Now if i try to apply synko playing white - no game found. Tried name "synko" or surname "synko" or name and surname all at the same time "synko" - nothing works.
HAs anyone tried anything like this before and might know the solution for my problem? Would really appreciate any help :) Thank you
