Games DB

I would like to find a software that I could use to store all my games. Same as here "explore my games" page is used for.

What about Chessbase 10? It's a great program which I use everyday for the purpose which you have mentioned, and more! If the price is a problem (price range is $180-$400 USD for different packages which is kind of ridiculous hahaha) then perhaps you can go with chessbase light, which is less expensive (~$60), and has a trial period.

If you have not notice I am not a premium member. If I had 60 bucks, I would pay for membership here first, and had my DB for that money.

I was thinking of more cheaper (free) software.

SCID is perfect for this. It also has built in analysis features, opening tree - fully featured and free. Chessbase is ok too, but it cannot search games by date -- which i need for my games. There was a big argument about this in another thread -- perhaps you should look there...

Iv'e been using Scid too, I'm very happy with it, although it took me a while to figure out.

Chessbase Light, Arena, SCID, and Winboard/Xboard are all totally free clients that can deal with PGN files.  :)

But can any of these separate your games as black and your games as white? I've been using Scid but I cannot for the life of me find a feature that either edits a pgn file so that it only contains games with one player plays a certain color, or find a way to display the results of a search/filter in the tree form.

I want to know how often I respond to e4 with c5, and how often my opponents respond with c5 against my e4, but not both added together!

IMHO SCID is the way to go.  Not only is it free, and every bit as good as any other corporate chess program, it runs on Windows, Mac OS, Linux, PocketPC and even from a Flash memory stick.  Take a look at these screenshots and read the thread zxzyz mentioned above and see for yourself that there is no rational reason to spend money on commercial proprietary products.  Get a nice chessboard instead Wink

Not sure I understand this exactly, but you can search header for your name as Black, then switch to clipbase  and search for board position e4 select your games db, for search reference db, selecting add to filter radio button. Then copy the results to clipdb and open the tree window. That should give all your responses to e4 in tree form...

hmm ...actually even better is to just do 1 search by header: your name as black, then under eco code there is a little control to open a box from which you select eco codes. select the code for e4 and hit ok, search.

then Then copy the results to clipdb and open the tree window.

You can afterwards create separate dbs for yourselelf as black and white if req.
