Help me find out more about my chess set and appraise it
(I wasn't suggesting you might keep it for anything like moral reasons; I just think it will be difficult to sell for very much.)

I agree, and I understand. Not sure what to do.

regarding eBay and ceramic chess sets in general it can totally be done. I've recieved fine porcelain chessmen all the way from Poland in perfect condition, and I've also recieved delicate porclelain chessmen from Texas broken in 20 or so places in the mail. It's all about the wrapping. If you ship this anywhere you need to wrap each piece individually and make sure they don't move around in the package just like you were wrapping plates. Do that an insure it and it should'nt be a problem. I don't think I've ever recieved a broken chess set that was packaged well. Good luck and sorry I can't be of more... I don't know, actual help.

I'm sorry about your father. The chessset is, to say the least, far out of the norm and probably one-of-a-kind. The individual pieces don't seem to have anything to do with each other, so it might be a conglomeration or, at the least, a hand-made set. A buyer would have to be a person with unique tastes - and many chessplayer are just that. You might send photos, or the link, to dealers in antique and unusual chesssets for an evaluation. Or, as mentioned, let people bid on it on ebay. Good luck with your unfortunate situation.

I'm pretty sure that set was carved from black rhino horns and fetus skulls.
um... I can't tell whether or not ur joking.

If you want to try selling it on ebay, but don't know how much it's worth, you could start off by setting a really high reserve price (not starting price), and then once you think the bids you receive are high enough you can lower your reserve price to make it lower than the highest bid.
I recently attended an estate sale. ] I bought a chess set. Its a nigri . The description on the box for the pieces say its Romans and huns. The box the pieces came looks fairly old. The set itself is in mint condition. Can anyone please let me know how I get this set appraised.
Thank You

I also know nothing about the chess set. To me the coolest part is the carving done below the padding that I accidentally lifted up. Someone drew a castle and ocean waves and didn't quite get the waves finished. They drew it in ink and carved it out. Also a shadowy figure standing in the front of the castle! Neat bonus I guess.
