Help With Chessbase and Mega Database

Hi guys. Just wondering a couple things about chessbase. I have Mega Database 2012 set as my reference database which has over 5 million games. However when I go into a new board and click on search position on hard disk(reference database) it only comes up with a few thousand games, e.g. after 1.d4 it says Nf6 has only been played 15,000 times which is obviously wrong. Also when I do an opening report it seems that all the games are not searched either, e.g. when I do one on the catalan it says only one game has been played. When I click into the database from the hompage on chessbase however I can see all the games so I think it mightn't be set as reference database properly or something.

Here is a video showing what I mean and any help would be appreciated.

OK i am willing to bet you have openings database and the megabase not set up wrong in the settings part (the help file is pretty good at this just double check) after looking at you video it might be a setting wher eyour limiting the rating for searches to greater than 2600 or something > i lik eto leave it open since alekhine isnt rated :)

I dont know whats wrong there but its much easier to search using "online" anyway.

Ok thanks Tony I'll have a look.

Only problem with using online is that you can't do an opening report as far as I know but maybe I'm wrong.

Any ideas?

Maybe an issue with the filter?

Don't think so, because I'm not searching to view the actual games, but I'm not sure I could be wrong.

Here you go:

In the upper right corner there is a "?"  that is the "help"

Click on it.  Go to "reference" then "openings" then "define Reference datatbase"

See if you are really using Mega for your reference.  Good luck!

Post if it helps or not.

Ok thanks I'll try it

Nope tried that but it didn;t work, it's definately selected as my reference database but it still won't work for some reason.

I wonder if the path is correct? It can't be searching the Mega...I did the same search with my 2008 Big Database, and it was some huge number of games at move 3.

Have you tried opening up your Mega and checking to see how many games are contained in it?  Just to make sure something isn't wrong with that database?

TeslasLightning

I don't know...maybe these can help a little.  I am just learning my way around.

Ok thanks I'll have a look, and yeah when I click into the database I can see all the games, millions of them in all different openings.

Try unselcying the database and then reselecting I had the same problem.

Right click on the database. select "Tools" - Delete Search Booster. right click again, select "Tools"- Create Search Booster. This will help. http://en.chessbase.com/post/problem-finding-positions-a-five-minute-fix
