How to play a strong defense (books?)

Hi,

I am a beginner at chess but already even though it is still in early stage, I have discovered that the best games I've played so far is by playing well defensively and waiting for my opponent to make a mistake to take an advantage. When I try to push too much on attacking my opponent I usually make mistakes and got beaten quickly.

That said, I've much to learn to improve my game and I think that an efficient way to do that for me is by reading books on the subject. I've almost finished The Basis Of Combinaison In Chess by Julius Du Mont and this is very useful it has helped my understanding of the game of chess.

I wonder if you can recommend me books that can help me towards having a strong defense at chess. That would be very appreciate feel free to recommend what you think might be uselful and I will take a look at them! thanks.

Thanks but your message is not very useful, if not at all. I know that as a beginner playing a 'strong' defense is not likely to happen soon, if ever. But in reading books on the subject it can help me improving if but a little while keeping playing chess to gain experience.

king's indian defense and king's indian attack are a structure that

you can play against virtually anything. Also, look for books

on the Colle-Zukertort (white barely even gets threatened in the

first 20 moves!).

Not many good books on defense, try Black is Ok by Andres Adorjan, 1988, and Black is Still Ok, 2004. There is a review by Silman on his website.

Thank you guys, you reply are appreciate.

After some Amazon research I have come up with many titles of book treating about chess defense.

How to Defend in Chess: Learn from the World Champions  by Colin Crouch
The Art Of Defence In Chess by Polugayevsky and Damsky
How to Be Lucky in Chess by LeMoir.
Defence and Counterattack in Chess by Florian
The Art of the Middlegame by  Paul Keres and alexandre Kotov
The Secrets of chess defense by Mikhail Morin

Now, are they all to be recommended, I am not sure. But I've seen many positive comments from customers of amazon.
