Long time since I imported a chess set from outside the EU. To the best I can recall it wasn’t a huge percentage for import duties and customs handling maybe 5% ? Don’t forget you have to payvat which can be 20% or so. I can’ Remember if there was a lower tax free limit.

Does anyone know the import tax rate on chess sets (both plastic and wooden, if any and if different) from the US and Canada into EU?
I'm looking to buy a full-sized (~5 cm squares), decently looking ebonized wooden staunton chess set with black/white chess board (I find the black/white combination for the whole set, together with Staunton piece design to look amazing) around Christmas this year, and I find myself realizing that the price listed on seller websites is probably not the total ammount I will end up paying to receive the product in the EU.
The official EU import rate database (TARIC; accessible on: http://ec.europa.eu/taxation_customs/dds2/taric/taric_consultation.jsp?Lang=en) is extremely confusing because I have no idea under which category to consider a chess set as, and there are SO MANY (I'm not joking - take a look for yourselves).
Any information would be helpful.
Thanks
