Is this a Jaques and Son Lasker set from 1880s?

If you are offering, sure! I'll be honest, before I got these pieces I never considered the baize and condition as being important. I've learned much!

Thanks! Is this your profession or is this a hobby for you?

It's a hobby. I'd like to be good enough to make repairs for people but all I've done so far is restore sets that I've bought and then re-sell them. I've just bought a lathe though in an effort to take this to a new level, so that I can do repairs that I can not currently do.

Anyway, here are the 2 pawns and the rook. The rook looks OK in my opinion. If the ebony pieces in your set have been ebonised then this should match OK, but if they're left showing the natural grain of the ebony then this rook may still stand out unfortunately. I've rebaized them all, hopefully the baize will match OKish.

I'm totally blown away! You did a very nice job on the pieces. I definitely look forward to seeing what you do with your lathe happy.png

Thanks again

Well, the offer made by a chess.com community member was completed with the arrival of the pieces.

They arrived! First class airmail, UK to Canada from @IpswichMatt!

Let's see how they look...

Can you even tell without the red arrows? They look fantastic and match well. The rook was boxwood, but repainted black.

A closer look at the crew.

Matched rook is second from right.

These boys are okay to go into retirement.

I truly feel like this set is complete again and I cannot wait to have my first OTB game with them. A big thanks to Matt, I'm quite blown away at his generosity. The gesture is a real testament to the chess community here and the support one can find.
