Is this normal for African Palisander?

Hi -- I just got this African Palisander board new from a major retailer, and I'm wondering about the white streaks in the dark squares. Is this normal? What's the cause? To be fair, I took the picture to make them as obvious as possible, so it isn't nearly this dramatic in person, but I still notice it enough to wonder. Thanks...

Looks like after the final sanding the surface wasn't completely cleaned before applying the finish.  Possible of course that they are all like that.  To clean thoroughly I found I needed to use a damp sponge as the final step and then you need to wait for it to dry.  Maybe adding additional time to the production cycle isn't economically feasible.  And maybe I'm completely wrong....wink.png

I can't help you with information about what those white marks are all over the board, but could you post a photo of the board from a more normal everyday angle/distance? I'm curious to see how it looks. Just from that zoomed in photo. It don't look right to me. Maybe oils from the wood?

Sure, here's a full view. From this distance, the light streaks are noticeable but not too bad. I'm not really complaining, especially for the price (which was reasonable): just interested to know what's up, since right now I know next to nothing about chess boards.

Thanks sound67. That pic, along with the other replies, is making it a lot easier for me to stop thinking about it and just enjoy the board.
