I am more than happy for the interest the show gathered for chess. We welcome all those who are new to chess. Who knows? The future world chess champion could be one of them.
It's seems like the Queens gambit craze is now over

Exactly this. I've played chess off and on since I was a young boy but I've only recently got into recreational drug usage after watching the Queen's Gambit series.

I'm not convinced the boom in chess set prices is over yet - it's weeks since I've seen any old Jaques sets come up for sale on eBay. I still have a couple to sell to I'm hoping the boom isn't over just yet!

Matt , With the antique chess market , The prices of old Jaques sets Ayres , BCC , have been on the rise
way before this QG fad / Craze , Just more people now know of these historical chess sets , just look at the repro market & the demand for the real sets over the past years .

I have no expertise or specific industry knowledge on which to base my next comment upon but …my sense from reading this forum is that quality antique sets will always maintain or grow in value - perhaps fads or trends might increase the speed of increase at different times - and over the years there might be slight peaks and troughs - but the trend would be to increase over time.
Further - on more modern sets - while I was not involved some years back - from my reading on this forum - I think some chess sets (newly produced) used to be very, very cheap - good fortune for those who took advantage of those prices from emerging manufacturers … but again … and just my sense …. such value may not be seen again. Sure, prices may come off/drop from their current highs as demand and supply evens out but I can’t imagine they will ever return to the super cheap prices of a few years back.
Selfishly, I hope I’m wrong but I’m readying myself to pay a little more than the collectors of yesteryear.

True, I have never seen a price adjusted back to what it was once it was upped. Not for a single product of any kind.
Well, since my wife and I have been out and about since this entire Covid craze hit,we see a significant price increase on many products.....Took our grown daughter to Princeton New Jersey for a nice afternoon lunch and though many stores had closed down, the restaurant and stores who still exist, have raised their prices dramatically.

I have personally asked the big sites and chess makers over the last 4 weeks about business, while it might have let up a little is still robust and they are selling chess equipment at a rapid rate. Much better than before the QG. But they tell me it has only let up a little and business is great with all the new players looking to get better and buying books and equipment.

I think what Queen's Gambit was trying to do was get more younger girls and women interested in the game, as that was the target demographic for the show but, as it got more successful, a wider variety of people started watching and learning how to play chess. It might actually be a stretch to say that people who saw it as "just another show" will take up chess as a serious hobby, unless they somewhat liked it or heard about it before.
