BTW, I'm waiting on another vintage set to from Russia. With the mitered bishops from the Tal set. My project continues. One of the shop owners had volunteered to hunt around. I sent him what pictures we have, and he found something pretty close. I'm excited to get my hands on it!
More Soviet Sets

It's here! I'll try to take some picks this weekend. It's a bit of a mish-mash, actually, with kings and knights from mixed sets. But the bishops from the waist up have the same shape as the Tal set, and unlike any of my other Soviet sets, have miters. The miters are not as deep, but this set is in the evolutionary chain of Tal's. The rooks' turrets, too, will be very helpful in recreating the design. One of the kings' finials is missing (Alan you may be hearing from me), but they're actually a form of cross rather than the usual peg or ball. Again, I picked this up not because it was the Tal set, but because some of the pieces had design elements that would help me reverse engineer the Tal set.
Here are some shots of my latest Soviet set. Some of the pieces, like the finial-deprived white king, are from other sets. The knights are mismatched, it seems. But the black king has a cross and the bishops sport miters, just as the elusive Tal set. The board is a 2.5" square Jaques, discussed some in another chain.

I've yet to have a problem with a parcel from Russia or Ukraine. This one was sent May 10 and was delivered May 21 by Russia Post. Eleven days. Believe it or not!
HI Chuck, regarding Esty, do they offer the same buyer protection as Ebay?
Hi Mike, great question. I have no idea. I always use the credit card option with Paypal, and if I had a problem, would probably resolve it through the issuing bank, which has always proved itself in my corner in such situations. It is issued through a program with the American Bar Association, so maybe the bank is more helpful than it otherwise might be, but I've never had a problem that they were not instrumental in resolving in my favor.
