Today I  received  my custom made 4" Crimson Stain Dubrovnik set from ChessBazaar.  Truly a gorgeous and amazing set with the eye-popping red colored pieces with wider bases.

That crimson stain is really growing on me...at first I thought I preferred the traditional ebony/ebonized but I'm not so sure anymore haha

The set looks even better in person.  I will definetely use it in my tournament games as i don't think my opponent would object

What was it that made it a custom made set, the Crimson in the 4"?

It was made to my specifications including wider base pieces, 5 turret rooks, taller rooks and the crimson stain

Super set, a few more steps closer to the 1950 set with the wider bases and taller rooks. Very nice Mike.

I bet its a nice weight for the set neither light nor so heavy, just right.

Funny how people think the heavier the weight the better the set, they couldn't be more wrong.

The original Dubrovnik pieces were unweighted. I do like a little weight in my pieces though. Is Mikes nice looking set weighted.?

dwz

how much was it?

EDIT: It's $120. Very nice though

Frank, the set weighs approximately 50oz.

goodknightmike, what kind of premium did chessbazaar charge for a custom set? I'm curious as I'd like to have them make me a Dubrovnik with a 3.5" King (1.5" base) to fit my 2" Drueke. I'd also like the pieces in Boxwood/Ebony.

Also, what kind of details did you have to provide them?

Chessbazaar offers a 3.6" King with a 1.6" base in crimson or sheesham wood, presently sold out. This size may be a tad too big for your board. It was a fair premium which I do not wish to disclose. I'm sure if you contact ChessBazaar, they will let you know all the information needed to make your set. You might want to check out the 3.5" sets they offer on their site and see if the specs of these sets would help you formulate the specs for your 3.5" Dubrovnik.
