My experience with Chess Bazaar

truly sorry for your experience.I hope thing work out.....which they probably will, with enough pressure.

Btw,it does not hurt to mention you are a member of Chess.com and wish to say nice things about them in the future..

The psychology of that statement goes a long way.

StauntonCollector

" You can just say "I am not planning to order any additional sets in the near future. Please ship the piece ASAP and send me the tracking information.Simple. "

This is what I wrote them before. They told me that it was not safe if they send the King only?

I ordered now a Lardy Staunton Set from them. They will send it together with the replacement king. When I receive the package then I `ll post the result.

Beside from this I`m very impressed when I see the different CHESS sets here. Specially the collection of " sound67" is phantastic!!!!

Best wishes

Jörg

Yes,but if you threaten to never do business with them again, they might just chalk you up.If you leave the door open(even though you're done with them) and mention that you don't want to bash them on Chess.com(having like a zillion members) you have a better chance of coming out with a satisfactory result.... I did this with C.B. after numerous issues(Oh boy,did I have issues....all fixed to my complete satisfaction, yet the experience sucked....whew!).

Just trying to be helpful.....Good luck

That set would perk up the style characteristics of any board you put them on. I like how the glossy finish makes the crimson lacquered pieces pop & the plain boxwood pieces look "Antiqued"and also pop as well, to which I had made that same discovery when I lacquered finished my crimson Hungarian-Romanian set from CB a few years back.

That's a cool contrast of the red crimson and boxwood against the grey and lighter greyed board squares. Good color matching and eye catching style you got there sound67. All the best...Jorge.

P.S.- Where can I obtain a board like the grey squared one you have displayed your CB crimson set on? I'd like to purchase one for my own usage. Thanks for the reply in advance. Kudos to you sound67....best...Jorge.

I believe this is it; https://www.houseofstaunton.com/grey-erable-and-birds-eye-maple-standard-traditional-chess-board-gloss-2375.html. It comes in various colors (green, blue, red, etc.), and I believe you can get it from a number of different companies (i.e., you don't have to get it through HoS). Happy shopping.

It's a Ferrer board from Spain, they are available in a variety of colours: Grey, red, blue. White fields are bird's eye maple, frame and dark fields dyed ash burl. Unfortunately they appear to be rather expensive in the US (or from CB for that matter). They're available in 45mm, 50mm or 55mm.This one is the 55mm (2.2"), which fits these pieces nicely. In Germany, you can get them for much less (e.g. the 55mm version for €88.50 at https://www.schachversand.de/schachbrett-vogelaugenahorn-grau-fg-55mm.html

So does this company in Germany ship overseas and do they have an english translation button  to their website so I could place an order? That is the exact style and color board I would like to buy in the 55mm size but I couldn't make out if they have a translation button to depress. Perhaps you could tell me since you're from there sound67?  Thank you kindly for the information thus far...best.Jorge.

Thank you sound67 this does help me quite nicely. Hopefully it arrive in a reasonable amount of time to my residence.

Well, the 5mm more in field size (2.5" - 60mm) don't make *that* much of a difference, but that's the largest board my IKEA tables can take.

The board frame seems like two pieces.

I really like that set...Great little collection you're  putting together.

This set looks really nice.  The CB carvers have really improved the quality of their work.

I don’t get Ebony because it cracks in my environment.

I would be curious to read a comparison of this set and a similarly made one from Official Staunton, The House of Staunton or Staunton Castle.  And I mean a hands on comparison.

I guess a comparison with our morphy set ?

Eyechess

Yes Carl, that would be a good comparison.  You might remember I bought that Morphy set from you in both the Sheesham and Ebonized versions.  Those sets are great, especially on a 2” square board.

This reminds me to bring out those sets and use them.  That will be next for my topic on sets I love and use.

I recall HoS selling that set for a very limited run.  They called it the York Series.  I remember that set was identical to the ones you sell as Morphy.  I owned that set and gave it to a college student.  I then bought my 2 sets from you.  I wonder if CB is getting this set from the same manufacturer you guys used.

Of course the prices are all about the same as well from everyone.

We now have our own dedicated hub barr for a few lines,  but yes they may be buying certain lines from the company we once used before that company went into direct retail sales.

Charousek2002
In my opinion, prices are still too high for this type of quality
Charousek2002
The lardy repro is very different from the original one as I pointed out before.
Mohan_Kumar_Chess

cool. No need to fight or troll. Everyone have their opinions.

Charousek2002
The Lardy repro looks too crude in contrast to the genuine original Lardy. Such Lardy repros are at the cheapest end and everybody makes them nowadays.
Mohan_Kumar_Chess

The Lardy Repro looks good. And also it doesn't looks cheap like you said.

Eyechess

i agree with sound67 regarding this set and him buying it.

I really like the look and grain of those dark pieces and that is what matters on a chess board.

The Knights are chunky, but he already said that so leave him alone.  The rest of the pieces look fine.

I also would rather buy a Lardy reproduction rather than an original.  The originals have the problem of pieces warping to the point of noticeably leaning.

The reproductions are better made in that they won't warp like that.

No, I like this set and I believe sound67 will enjoy it as time goes by.

forked_again

Nice Lardy set.

Now throw it on the pile.....
