For me, it was "Bobby Fischer Teaches Chess". Very basic stuff , but enough to hook me to the game

My first book i read completely was The Complete Chess Course by Reinfeld. I also read some of Weapons of Chess by ??. The first 2 i bought and read were logical chess and How to improve your vhess
